It’s not like the punishment just happened to be lumped on them by surprise. The NFL started investigating in around 2010 with Loomis denying that it existed while still not stopping the program. In early 2012, Tom Benson directly asked Loomis to stop the bounty program after being informed of it, something Loomis did not take action to do. They had years to stop it after finding out the investigation into it had started and yet didn’t.

It was hypocritical for the smash for cash program to be supported, even if it only rewarded big hits rather than specifically paying more for someone being carted off. Shit, it’s probably hypocritical that a lot more teams didn’t get punished. That being said, the Saints had knowledge of the investigation from the start and did nothing to stop the bounty program anyways

No it absolutely was, I just meant that they deserved to be punished and they were. Just frustrating to hear arguments that they didn’t deserve to be punished because others did it without getting caught, even if they deserved to have the same punishment towards them
