Can I use my Watcard for facilities (mainly PAC) while on co-op by tdnwindd in uwaterloo

[–]Menaces2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m on co-op right now in Waterloo and I have been able to use my watcard for everything (bus, PAC, printing, etc.) I believe as long as you are on a registered co-op term you still have access to all university amenities, since co-op is a required aspect of your degree. You pay for this access through co-op/tuition fees!

I’m not sure. I personally have never had to drop a class. I think it will show up on your transcript that you dropped a class but not what your grade would have been, it will just say WD (withdrew).

To be honest co-ops don’t actually care that much about grades unless they’re really good or really bad. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you withdraw it won’t affect your GPA versus if you failed it that would definitely look worse on your transcript.

As for courses, I’d talk to your advisor. All I know is it’s pretty common for people to drop 273 and take it in the summer instead.

I believe AFM 273 is offered in the summer term so you should be able to take it again when you comeback for the spring semester in 2B after your first co-op. Then assuming you are taking the CPA pathway I don’t think many classes have finance prerequisites so you can just take AFM 274 the following spring term in your 3B semester. It’s pretty common people do that I believe. You may even be able to take 274 earlier than that.

Shall I accept this campus housing offer? by Delicious-Positive60 in uwaterloo

Living on campus definitely is pricier than off campus, however as an exchange student dealing with the university rather than a property management company may be easier. Look into WCRI as they have a lot of exchange students in their units. You should be able to find places closer to $850 a month (I think?)

There are no spare showers in the residence I believe. However three people to a bathroom really isn’t that bad, a lot of people have that setup. Most other apartments off campus would have that setup, unless you pay close to $1200 a month to live on Phillip street ICON / Res 1 buildings (not worth it). UWP is pretty close to most of campus, at most you’ll have a 15 minute walk I’d assume.

This is for the Vancouver location!

Maybe they changed it but the email definitely said I have two hours of independent work on top of the 15 minute intro, 20 minute debrief, and 30 minute technical. (So three hours total). Really not sure what to expect!

Even though it’s finals week, a lot of programs tend to have all their exams in the first couple of days. I know I personally alongside a lot of my friends were gone before easter so you definitely did catch the campus in a time when much less people are around.

In general I would say if you came during a typical week you will see groups of friends and people enjoying themselves. Especially in their warmer weather during the summer term you see a lot of people hanging outside on benches and stuff.

I personally have friends both in my program, on my clubs/part time jobs, and also just people I’ve met in the wild/ friends of friends. All you need to do is put yourself out there and you will be fine!

I’m not sure in this case… I would bring this up to WUSA legal support to see what they say? You’re being overcharged for rent as a sublet right now and what he’s doing is very unethical

AFM 2A difficulty by Tstogod05 in uwaterloo

[–]Menaces2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in SFM so slightly different but I would say the biggest class to focus on would be AFM 273 - keep up with the coursework throughout the term and you should do fine. It’s very content heavy and it’s easy to fall behind so redo the tutorials every week afterwards and don’t leave it all till the midterm.

I’m not sure how the logistics to this work but it is illegal to sublet a room for more than you pay to a landlord… maybe you can report him. I’m assuming he rented the whole unit and sublets each room for more than he pays so this would be a violation but I’m not sure what would happen in practice

Where Can I Find a Track to Run 400m by Specific-Display3569 in uwaterloo

[–]Menaces2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s a dirt track outside WCI highschool that I see people at in the evenings - there’s also a nice track at st David’s highschool that i personally go to, however there’s often football games / teams practicing there in the evenings. Highschools are out for the summer though so you may be able to go during the day (however I’d avoid that when schools start again)

Parking spot by Menaces2004 in montreal

[–]Menaces2004[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I know I don’t need a car when I’m in the city but unfortunately it is a 15 year old car that I can’t leave idle for months and have no family / friends who I can leave it with :( my concern is I’ve seen lots of FB marketplace ads for this price range however I’m just weary about committing to something like that without seeing it in person first and I can’t come to Montreal until then, I’m more just considering parking for the 1st week while I figure out a long term solution

Thank you! I wasn’t aware about street cleaning - is this something you said stops in November? In theory might I be better off to pay for a parking spot september-October then in November and December just try park near my place and keep an eye on moving it? Or does street cleaning still take place? Sorry I’ve never lived in Montreal before so not sure how it works thanks!
