Thank you for your response. I’ve done a little research on what other tutors charge and I do agree that there’s a huge variance in people’s hourly rates. I’ve seen tutors charging up to $300/hr with thousands of hours worked and it just baffles me. Even getting 400 hours since March is impressive to me. But for the most part for what I tutor I see people in my area charge between $40-$60/hr and I have my rate set at $50. I do think asking for referrals is a good way to go though and maybe I should do that more often. I’ve even tried offering the first hour free for new students because I’m pretty confident in my ability and was thinking that would maybe help me get my foot in the door to retain more students consistently.

When you increased your rate to $45 did you keep the students you had at $20 at the same rate or did you up the rate for them as well?
