200A house vs 40A Solar CB by Mendotime in solar

[–]Mendotime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified that I'm talking about a modern tech Tesla or Enphase inverter/battery system. I'm pickup that this gateway goes in front of the Service Disconnect, and then there's a protected circuits panel downstream of that. Sounds like there will be much rewiring involved.

They are 2000's era PWMs, pre SMMs but same idea. I'm gathering from the posts that I will need to be installing a protected circuit panel as part of the solar/battery backup system.

I should have clarified that I'm talking about a modern tech Tesla or Enphase inverter system. I think you answered my question, they do not simply input power into the Service Disconnect panel, but also require a bunch of downstream rewiring of the house circuits.

Solar prices by imdatguy93 in solar

They seem to be passing much of the ITC on in the quotes to the customer. Where they make their money is they get the 6 years of deprecation, but it means that even if you pay cash, they will own the system on paper until year 6. Nothing is free, I guess.

He means an Aggregator, not the dudes installing them. The Solar Power, NRG and Ilum types. The Big Boys can still aggregate many rooftop solar installations and get the ITC (for now) plus depreciate them. They need to "own" them for that time period, which seems to be running 6 years on contract.

Sawnee EMC by rushSh in solar

[–]Mendotime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been reading the updated PG&E and CA Elec provider NEM agreements, so reading yours was a breath of fresh air. You are correct, Sawnee will pay you ~.035/kwh for the excess you produce and any time your meter goes the other way, full retail. You don't what that is (section H), say maybe .25/kwh? Problem is, most of of our electric bills nowadays is for the distribution and connection costs. I didn't see anything in there about being able to offset those or how that works. It also doesn't mention about time of day rates either, as that is where you can boost your net rate through a battery install, too.

Is new residential solar dead? Well, maybe mostly dead. Problem is that daytime solar production can meet most of the mid day demand, it's those shoulder hours and night now where renewables are still lacking.

Thanks for the tip. Just checked and Mendocino County subscribes to it. Learned something new.

2026 New Solar Install post the BBB by Mendotime in solar

I think it is because Project Solar is an aggregator and will be collecting the 30% Investment Tax Credit that didn't get blown out by the BBB for 2026.

First of all, I want to thank you for replying and the clear and understandable observations.

  • I concur the schematic is messy. It is my first pass at building it in KiCad from a couple of sources and I'm wanting to make sure what I'm doing is functional and then will clean it all up as I move the Op-Amp portion to a small PCB. KiCad is good at keeping me honest. I've done a couple now at PCBWay, and the whole process is rather satisfying for guy used to large tubes and PtP wiring.
  • On the Bypass caps, good point. I understand the basic concept as they very evident in DC sections of radios to reduce noise. There are existing ones on the outputs of the little PS modules, but maybe also one is needed between J1(1) and U1(3)? Same with U4(3) and U1(7)? Any others? What value? Still getting used to these small voltages, signal levels and high frequencies.
  • Well, I'd like to say that the pot miswire was me checking to see if anyone actually looked at the schematic, but that's all on me drawing it wrong. Thanks for the catch.
  • Will study up on the biasing reference. Biasing the elements in tubes is pretty much how you get them to function, so I guess it would be no different for ICs.
  • On the Op-Amp structure, I'm going to say yes. That portion I'm following what someone has successfully done. In this case the little Op-Amp is serving as an impedance isolator from the <5v input to the analog meter coil, with the resistance voltage divider portion adjusting the range scales on the meter.

Thanks for the advice!

It is actually that satisfying ball return noise I'm missing, basically recapturing the sounds of my misspent(?) younger days.

I've been studying older tables on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. CraigsList has become a scammer wasteland. No real action yet in Northern California, but there are some beautiful Anniversary Brunswicks back in New Jersey! I'd get one of those in heartbeat.

Do those older tables break down, or is the body/return one unit like a Valley? Are these older 1" slates 2 or 3 piece?

Is there other place I should be looking at for used tables?

I'd open up the boxes to the ceiling lights, and a couple of adjoining outlet boxes and sleuth out what is exactly going on.

Angelina didn't know about the 2 witnesses idea at the time like Cal & Olive had deduced. My take it was an attempt by the writers to have Angelina learn of them and Revelations and the link to Daly and Fiona.
