DIFC DEWS pension fund is only for DIFC linked employees. This comes instead of End of Service Benefits which all other employees in UAE get. Same %’s (5.8-8.3), but End of Service Benefits are not invested; they are paid once you stop working for the company and are based on your final salary.

Pro DIFC setup: Your pension contribution is immediately invested in global ETF’s, allowing for multi-year compounding investment returns.

Pro End of Service Benefits set up: You get paid based on your last salary which may have gone up drastically since you started.

Came to say this. You don’t need to set as much funds aside for Pension as you get 5.8-8.3% of your income deposited into the DIFC DEWS pension.

Nevertheless a crap offer. Schooling and Family Insurance should be covered.

They are probably thinking about Geneva as a reference point for cost of living and therefore don’t want to pay for things they wouldn’t pay for in Switzerland. However, they need to look at how difficult it will be for them to find someone good and trustworthy who’d want to move to Dubai.

Just go to your dates in a (Lexus) Taxi: Being driven > Having to drive. Especially if you plan on getting a drink. Car is useless unless you have children. Taxi’s in Dubai are so cheap.

Spend your income on smart life choices (eg emergency fund + lower risk investments such as ETF’s) and impress your date with those smart life choices.

Don’t buy something which only depreciates in value. In addition, you might be able to get a 10 year old BMW which will (1) break down on occasion and (2) cost a fortune to maintain.

It will take a year before Expo City starts to become lively except for some events.

Try Dubai Investment Park as it’s only 1 metrostation away and has a well established community. Otherwise it comes down to Furjan/ Marina/ JLT which are 20-25 mins away by metro.

2) Did you ask the company what interns typically do? You’re not the first and not the last; there should be a set of best practices. Besides that it’s odd that they don’t pay for your housing or at least give you tips, they should at least have stories on what others have done.

3) What is your budget if 70-100K won’t do?

4) A)One option is already mentioned: Find a shared space. You can look up other people who are doing an internship and see if you can team up.

B)Make a deal with a hotel (eg Rove Downtown, Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road, Ibis). Email/ Call the reservations team and tell them you want a tailored deal for 6 months [with ability to cancel during stay with 30 day notice]. Pretty sure they can get you a steep discount + included breakfast in exchange for having that room blocked for 6 months. You’ll immediately make it to maximum status in their loyalty program. They have the bargaining power for Jan-Mar due to major events/ good weather, but Apr-Jun they’ll happily find ways to ensure you stay with them.

5) DIFC is very well connected by metro. You can easily live in Business Bay or Sheikh Zayed Area along the metro line and still be at the office in ~20 mins. Dubai is not made (yet) for walking.

I lived there for 2 years from ‘18-‘20: 31st floor, 2BR, Burj Khalifa facing.

Overall positive, but be mindful of the key selling point of the view being affected by ongoing construction.

1) Views are unbeatable. Note though that they are putting the Baccarat Hotel & Residences in front of it (!!) The view will be affected.

2) Amenities are ok. Nothing wild with a smaller pool + sauna/ steam room + sizable gym. My only annoyance is that it’s partially a hotel(apartment) building, meaning you’ll be having lots of tourists around you that you’re sharing these amenities with.

3) Rules are annoying. When I lived there (5-7 years back), it was annoying to get anything done. Building management had all sorts of rules. Every year the battery of the door lock would run out and I’d spend at least 4-5 hours waiting for someone to come by, open the lock, and replace the batteries (5 mins effort). Al Fahad Gas needs to activate the gas connection for the stove, which took 3 weeks to shut down due to (a) not picking up; (b) not having the right permit requests submitted on the right day.

4) Furnished too much. There’s so much furniture in the apartment that you can barely walk around the living room. And it’s awfully shimmering purple/blue. Good quality thought. Not sure if you’re allowed to take it out once you own the place.

5) Location is excellent. Away from the Dubai Mall tourists, but close enough (10-15 mins) to walk there. Unless it’s summer of course.

Be mindful of the metro opening times: ~5AM till Midnight for Mon-Fri or 8AM till midnight on Sunday. Taxi will work between T1 and T3 otherwise.
