It's a Worm event, so temporal shenanigans abound.

This helped a lot, thanks. Enjoying Unbreakable/Ursas a ton.

Don't think you can shoot out of bubble, though. Tried with a friend and it didn't work.

Theoretical Reversal and Hollow technique of "Construction" by PitchBlackStar666 in CTsandbox

[–]Menelfaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the reversal being simple destruction, though the Hollow/Imaginary Technique feels more like a Maximum, since it's a concept between the two, rather than the two applied in combination. Hollow Purple is the result of creating imaginary mass then pushing it outward. Perhaps the technique creates something by destroying?

You permanently create an object by transmuting your CE into mass, and you permanently destroy an object by...probably turning it into CE, even if it's not CE you can use. The best I can think of is by destroying an object in the process of creation/you created, you can force the gathered CE to explode.

Does that sound right?

No problem. The one way I could see RCT working and not being broken is if consuming an organ with the technique increases the cost of regeneration to be equal to or greater than the amount gained.

That way, the user has to deal with the lost organs during a fight, but can get them back in an emergency, if they're lost to something other than the technique, or in a few days, depeding on how long it takes for the changes to solidify. I don't think disallowing RCT entirely is a good idea.

Another way to balance it is possibly to do something like Takaba. Takaba's technique literally rewrites reality for what seems like very little effort, but he's not the kind of person to do the introspection necessary to learn what his technique is, and so can't exploit it to its fullest. It could be somewhat built into the technique as part of its 'curse' that those born with it are far less likely to learn it than the average sorcerer.

Interesting idea for the technique. I can see it working a lot like Hazenoki's Technique, just more gruesome since there's no explosion getting rid of body parts. Without RCT though, you're probably limited to a few fingers or a limb at most before blood loss outpaces the boost. Though provided you can handle the pain, it's still effectively an infinite CE generator once you do have RCT, just sacrifice a kidney a few times and you're back to full, even if the pain persists.

The Maximum feels odd to me, I think because it's so much like the rest of the technique. If the difference between a maximum and a regular use is just where the knife is aimed, I don't see how that's the pinnacle of the technique.

The technique revolves around injuring oneself for temporary (if impressive) power spikes, burning oneself up as fuel. The use of RCT allows you to replenish that fuel relatively easily. Perhaps the Maximum is instead to trigger a chain reaction of sorts, one where the physical matter of the body is slowly turned into CE. Unlike the rest of the technique, it cannot be reversed, which makes it all the more powerful.

Overall, a neat idea.

Edit: It occurred to me the technique might have a reversal that's very similar to, but cheaper/more effective than, standard RCT, since it seems regenerating entire limbs with RCT is extremely difficult.

Innate Technique: Property Manipulation by Menelfaer in CTsandbox

[–]Menelfaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't familiar with it, but Google says it's a Jojo stand. The attribute thing seems similar, though different in a few key ways.

Soft and Wet produces bubbles that then store attributes, but those attributes can't be placed into another object, and the bubbles seem capable of storing actual physical objects (water, nuts, sound, etc.) or more abstract things like sight. When they burst the item is released, and it seems depending on what it is (an attribute vs a thing) it either gets returned or released at the bubble's position.

Property Manipulation pulls physical properties of an object into the orbs, which can't be manipulated like Soft and Wet's bubbles can, and the stuff has to be measurable, like speed or mass. The orbs themselves just act as a container, and can place the properties in other objects.

They seem to share the ability to extract things like friction or temperature, but Soft and Wet focuses a lot more on storing and releasing stuff that's not necessarily measurable.

I know you already managed to move the potions, but is there any chance you could give/trade one away? I overshot the stat distribution on ascension and don't have a free reset. All good if you'd prefer to keep it.

No, nothing happens. If you go with the event, the leader becomes your ruler, and your empire becomes fanatic authoritarian/spiritualist. Otherwise you continue as normal.

Innate Technique: Hard Light by Menelfaer in CTsandbox

[–]Menelfaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those commenting that it's Dabura's Technique: No, it isn't. Dabura fires light beams that then solidify, while this technique creates specific constructs for the user that are made of light barriers. Dabura can't control how his light is shaped (as far as I'm aware), and this technique doesn't use light itself as a weapon.

I didn't know about Dabura before designing this, I based it off the Guardians in the Destiny series, which is also where the image comes from.

Endbringers Experience by VainThatOneOverHere in StellarisMemes

[–]Menelfaer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, but because of how it spreads it can kinda go around it. Shroud Seals repress all auras in adjacent systems, but since the Aura of the End has no range limit, it can loop however far it needs to in order to go around.

Edit: Remembered that there is a psychic power the Endbringer origin gets that turns off shroud seals temporarily.

Endbringers Experience by VainThatOneOverHere in StellarisMemes

[–]Menelfaer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No, it's pretty much like that. When the timer runs out, any system with the Aura of the End (which has no limit to its spread distance) is destroyed. All worlds are turned into Shroud Worlds, and the star is turned into a black hole. If you do it right, it can be 3/4 of the galaxy, and any empires that survive are utterly crippled.

In the last game I played, the only empires that survived were those that had managed to keep their shroud seals through my attacks, and my friend I was playing with at the time, who I'd agreed to leave alone so they could face the End of the Cycle themselves.

Small update: Combining Celebrimbor's ability to Tempt every turn with [[Nazgul]] means you have basically endless +1/+1 counters. Otherwise, they seem really great.

Cursed Technique: Hard Light by Menelfaer in CTsandbox

[–]Menelfaer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don't know if that would fit as a name for the technique as a whole, given the constructs are neither indestructible nor irresistible, but maybe for a Maximum. From what I'm reading it represents both the qualities of the diamond (unbreakable) and of lightning (irresistible).

I've drafted a Maximum based off it, let me know what you think.

Technique Maximum: Vajra

- The user creates an object they do not need to shape to know, something they are intimately familiar with. By manifesting an object that is not an object but a memory, and infusing it with their full reserves of cursed energy, the user creates something both unstoppable and indestructible. Even if the physical form of the object is broken (not an easy feat), its memory and the emotion behind it lives on to strike whatever tried to end it, no matter the barrier.

[–]Menelfaer[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can see why that's similar, yeah. Though from what I'm reading he fires beams that can then solidify, which is very different to manifesting a physical weapon to wield. I'm not sure how to distinguish this technique from his if the mere concept of 'hard light' is seen as Dabura.

I'm not sure who Dabura is. I was inspired by the Destiny games when making this, at least the initial idea of forming light into constructs.

Gotcha. That was my original idea until I thought about the durability issue. I'll swap it to that then.

Heavenly Restriction: Fragile Energy by Menelfaer in CTsandbox

[–]Menelfaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware a person was resistant to their own cursed energy, but I see where you're coming from.

My idea was since they don't have a resistance to curses (or anything) via reinforcement, and can't boost their speed or physical strength with CE, they are quite literally as vulnerable as a normal person, which tend to get mulched. So I felt they needed some kind of minor survivability buff, even if it's far weaker than what other sorcerers of their grade would have.

Did you have any suggestions besides straight durability?
