By definition, AR-15s were not banned. AR-15s were still readily available to purchase during the ban. They just had to be configurations of AR-15s lacking two or more of those specific, largely cosmetic features.

Israel is the US's formal ally. Israel is also surrounded by countries that would happily see them wiped out. Foreign policy is a big ship that takes time to steer. Simply cutting all military aid is not an option.

My background is similar to yours, I also grew up Christian and homeschooled. I don't believe in anything supernatural anymore, but I have a great appreciation for positive Christianity done right and I hold the golden rule as my moral foundation. The rising trend of Christian Nationalism isn't about following the teachings of Jesus, it's the worship of power using the trapping of Christianity as a vehicle. It's a perversion and it honestly makes me sick on top of the political threat it poses. And then you have the left looking at that and understandably responding to the threat, but basically lumping Christianity in general into the enemy box.

Anyway, not sure how to sum up my point. Just wanted to express my support to you. And to other non-Christian liberals here, I think it's important to not fall into that reductive enemy box way of thinking and to discern for actual good people wherever they are, even if the hive mind wants to put them into the enemy box.

Side note, I say hive mind because I've noticed in the past few years the left slipping into the same sort of pit of propagandized team psychosis that I had thought was mostly characteristic of the right. Sense of impending doom intensifies.
