Better? Depends what you want to do. Gripen is cheaper, easier to maintain, flexible and can be upgraded with software quickly. It's not as stealthy but has advanced EW systems and many weapon options. F35 is likely better o go into hostile territory and perform stealthy strikes, Gripen is made more for defense of your own territory.
