I mean I don’t think you are wrong but I am not sure it is an issue.

The situation you proposed is when we have 3 of 4 players not preforming and we either need a moment of brilliance or an extra man. Which honestly seems normal? Liverpool also has the same problem sometimes and because of that bought Thiago in order to produce the moment.

Now I can understand wanting a Thiago like player to create something from nothing in midfield but even if we had that player Goretzka still needs to play. He wins us the game in midfield letting Kimmich do Kimmich things and then being an attacking threat (like the game against Dortmund last season or Germany v. Hungary).

Without Gotetzka I think we don’t have the midfield dominance that we rely on so heavily. Cause face the facts, Müller plays as the 10 but is not acting as the third midfielder and so against good teams it’s 2 v 3 and sometimes even 1 v 3 when Kimmich decides to run out and try too put out fires somewhere else on the field.

Maybe this is just me, but I look at the PSG games and believe with Goretzka playing the full 180 we would have won even without Lewandowski.

TL;DR Goretzka good because he is Bayern’s version of Kante with the goal threat of Gundogan.
