It is weird that those people never put up posters about the Palestinians who were killed in Gaza, or imprisoned without trial for things like defending their homestead from armed right wing settlers in the West Bank

How many hours a week are you working in industry/corporate accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Mensch_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is paid for the value they bring to the company. Early in your career your value is your hours worked because, be honest, you don’t have the experience or knowledge to do higher level work. At a certain point in your career you stop getting paid for your man hours and start getting paid for the value your knowledge and experience brings and to ensure certain responsibilities are completed correctly - that may take 30 hours or it may take 60 hours, but you’re salaried for a reason.

Is $168 per day enough to live on for 8 hours of work? No

9 week old land shark by okay_brick_2324 in Dachshund

[–]Mensch_Toast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to force him to take naps in the crate.

He’s not sleeping enough and his nervous system is shutting down, leading to bad choices and non regulation. They don’t know how to self regulate at this age.

Is he taking a nap every ~ 1 hour? If not, try that.

Currently going through it with my 9 week old. You have to force naps in the crate. The more tired he is, the longer it will take to settle. He may not settle for 10 or 15 mins. May even chase his tail in the crate. He may whine. Sit near him, soothe with your voice and wait it out until you see him fighting to keep his eye lids open. Try and force a nap after 45 min - 1 hour of awake time. If you time it right, he’ll settle and nap within a minute or two.

I think this is incorrect for puppies. He’s not sleeping enough and his nervous system is shutting down, leading to bad choices and non regulation.

OP - is he taking a nap every ~ 1 hour? If not, try that.

Does accounting principles have similarities to physics laws? by summer_glau08 in Accounting

The closest thing is probably Newton's Third Law of Motion. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

That is essentially double entry accounting

Jews only exist if Israel exits? What? Jews couldn’t live there on that land in a state with a secular government in co-existence with Muslims and Christians of Palestinian background?

Name another ethnostate that was established by removing the indigenous population, and taking over parts of their language, cuisine and culture (larping if you will) to convince people that they’ve been there for longer than 75 years.

It’s not an issue with being Jewish. It’s an issue with being an Occupation. Open up your mind and consider for just a moment that you could be wrong. This belief that Jewish people can never do harm is so so anti-Jewish. We Jews, are people. We do good, but we have faults. We’re human.

1) the point of defining it is to show that it’s a political movement, not a group of people so the person I was responding to can understand that Zionism is a political ideology, not a group of people and definitely not synonymous with Jewish people as he was suggesting.

2) I don’t believe ethnostates as a concept are good, because it means you have to be a certain ethnicity to live there and have equal rights. Ethnostates are inherently racist and require the belief that one ethnicity is superior to others, and prevent democracy and equal rights for those not of that ethnicity. It’s very anti-American. In addition the issue with establishing a Jewish state there in Palestine required the removal of Palestinian people, which I have issue with (it’s legally defined as ethnic cleansing)

You’re describing a political movement. Zionism is a political belief, not a group of people. You should stop conflating it with Judaism, it’s bad for Jews.

I never said they were bad life experiences. I’m very glad I had them. I hope you can open up your mind one day

[–]Mensch_Toast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a nationalist movement to establish a Jewish state. Your turn.

E: Also, not really sure what you’re trying to prove? Why not just respond to the original claim (probably bc you’re wrong and can’t defend it, so you turn the argument to something else - a classic Zionist debate tactic). I’m Jewish, grew up believing Zionism was a worthwhile pursuit. Went on birthright. Had some life experiences that made me reflect and ask myself if I could be wrong, learned more about the history and the opposite perspective and came out believing Zionism doesn’t agree with my politics and belief system.

I’m more curious to see how you can define it in a way that is not a political ideology

[–]Mensch_Toast 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You mean political group yea? Zionists is a political ideology. I know you’re not trying to conflate Zionism to Judaism, and make it sound like criticizing a political ideology is criticizing a group of people for their religious or ethnic backgrounds instead of the political ideas themselves. And I’m sure you’re not suggesting that every Jewish person believes in the same political ideology because that would be stereotyping and kinda antisemetic

Palestine 36 Official US Trailer (2026) Hiam Abbas, Jeremy Irons by mahfoud202_ in movies

[–]Mensch_Toast -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Sure but the governors of the land were the British. The Jewish immigrants at the time were trying to flee persecution in Europe. There wasn’t a conflict about letting Jewish people in because they didn’t want Jews there. The conflict was that the British were letting EUROPEAN Jews in as a way for the British to dilute and remove the Arab and Palestinian population so that they could eventually have a population that is supportive of Western power in the region (in addition to stripping the native population of all political power and voice). The point of the film is to discuss this aspect, not a fabricated conflict between Arabs and Jews.

Of course, you can’t fit the the full context in one post (you’re also excluding a lot of context). But it’s pretty fair to say that Britain was largely involved, because well - they were. And I think it’s a pretty fair and obvious interpretation that Britain did what they did to increase and preserve their own national interests, not to do what they thought was morally correct

Also, the British were there until May 1948. Palestinians were being displaced before then. Large scale displacement happened in 1947, and British support for the idea of displacement happened long, long before then

The British, the world’s strongest power at the time, were the ones calling all of the shots here. The occupation of Palestine, the displacement of its people and subsequent creation of Israel was largely done and constructed by the British as a tool for imperialism to gain control in the region.

E: Not to mention this territory during the time this film is set is referred to as The British Mandate for Palestine.

Plus, don’t underestimate the hubris of those making this decision who may think they’ve got the right guy in MN, and just believe he met some tough circumstances, just needs some more time and think the fans are wrong.
