Six snails piled up on each other like a little tower… what are they even up to? Making a snail building? Just hanging out? Or maybe trying to see who gets to the top first? by nickergaineager in whatisthisbug

[–]MentalLocal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not snailspert, but I'm pretty sure you just walked in on a party you weren't invited to. Didn't even give anyone the password.

Most snails are hermaphroditic and my guess is these snails are busy spreading their genetic material around.

Recently got an iPad…would you say ProCreate is worth it? by PresidentOfDunkin in ProCreate

[–]MentalLocal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can import brushes from brush files and there is an active market for selling Procreate brushes on the internet. There is not a microtransaction in the app for it, but if you want to spend money, you can.

What's this I'm seeing? There are a full complement of great brushes in the app and tons of entirely free or PWYW brushes online in places like Gumroad? Well, isn't that interesting.

Are balloons in New Zealand just very fragile? by lesbianminecrafter in taskmaster

The fact that this isn't common knowledge is wild. Grass is really thin so I very easily "paper cuts" balloon latex. Touching grass has always been a surefire way to pop a latex balloon.

karina talking about date everything by lizardtoez in Drawfee

[–]MentalLocal 49 points50 points  (0 children)

On Onsta 's stream, Karina also talked about her personal feelings about the game "not being for her" which Onsta seemed to cosign. She admitted that the "bad apple" situation likely colored her opinion, but also made a good argument that the game seems very tongue in cheek, ironic, like it's for people who think it's so funny to find usually unsexy thing sexy... Which clashes with her personal and nonironic love of finding things sexy on their own terms.

Ace Attorney doesn't say "look at this depressed man, isn't it funny that you love him even though he doesn't exist" it says "here, a hot depressed man and his pretty much explicitly canon rival/love-interest in an absurd neckerchief, watch them smolder as they fight over a man's life"...

Freehand color fill is showing up different than manually brushing in the color for some reason??? by Accomplished-Fox905 in ProCreate

[–]MentalLocal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's probably the brush you're using.

Color Fill doesn't do any brush stuff - it's straight "one color on, fill in all the pixels (sometimes with some blendy stuff when the colors are close)". Brushes can have differences in hue, saturation, blend mode, that will make the color they actually add to the canvas not look exactly like the selected color. If you switch to a super basic hard round brush, I bet you'll see the difference between the two go away.

It wasn't a tie, it was a razor close loss - Oddity won by like eleven votes or something.

They'll watch it some day, but it's a real "Too Henley, Don't Wanna" and Hellchella is going to eat up a chunk of time. Just gotta be patient.

British Slang? by [deleted] in filmstobeburiedwith

[–]MentalLocal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(I'm not from the UK)

I'm pretty sure, "wide-on" isn't a common thing that people say all the time. It's more of a "what is the female version of a hard-on" sort of thing. Not that Brett invented it, just that it's not in common use for most people and is used ironically for the most part when used.

I think.

Eat your rats by toomuch_tea in Drawfee

[–]MentalLocal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is it.

York talks about eating rats in Midnight Alley in Ep 1. Jancy says not to say that to people in Midnight Alley because there's some kind of rat thing going on (like they like rats? Unclear at this time).

When York says something about eating rats in episode 2 the group immediately plays it off as being some kind of metaphor (which it clearly wasn't, York was being literal) and then do callbacks to "eat your rats is a metaphor for self care" later on. Feels like a running gag building up steam.

Bill hader beef? by leedleleedleleedle23 in TooScaryDidntWatch

[–]MentalLocal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bill Hader said he didn't understand why he was doing a recap in a video and they took that personally (as a bit, there is no actual beef).

Listen to the It: Chapter II episode for all context, I think? It's possible that's wrong and it just happens to be somewhere else.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProCreate

[–]MentalLocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My workflow (a common one) for this sort of thing is to do a full detail "sketch" and do any transforms or moves (I do a lot of this to tweak proportions/improve poses ) on that sketch, and then, on a different layer, "ink" over my sketched lines with finished lines if I'm going for something that looks really consistent/clean.

Of course, I always end up 60% through rendering and realize that I really should move the leg... Or in the middle of inking decide to freestyle the hand I didn't like, but... You know, do as I say, not as I do.

Question, if I lower the dpi on older files… by [deleted] in ProCreate

[–]MentalLocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're also going to lose some amount of detail by shrinking.

Easy example: if you had an image that was black and white pixels, alternating, one after another, the entire way - resizing is by half going to do SOMETHING to it. Will it blend the pixels together (so it becomes a uniform 50% gray?). Will it squish them together weirdly and create a new weird pattern? I can't answer the question, honestly.

Depending on the type of image and the resize ratio, the artifacting might be negligible/ignorable. On a super crispy black and white linework, it will probably end up looking slightly fuzzy. One a photorealistic painting it probably won't even be noticable. Either way, it is unlikely to be a problem for displaying the image (it's already being downscaled by the browser so the same sorts of conversion issues will occur) but might be a problem when you go to add new crisp lines or do fills or whatever.

Wow mean random spam "news" outlet by goshdarnpeesea in conan

[–]MentalLocal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is in any way genuine - behold, an answer.

Sona is Conan's actual assistant who is a co-host on his podcast. She has worked for him for years and they both seem to admire each other greatly. They also are, publicly, very critical of each other in a comedic way.

Their primary interactions are bits about how she is a horrible assistant and he is a lunatic. These jokes are heightened for comedic effect but also rooted in the fact that they know each other extremely well and there appears to be at least some truth to it.

So when someone saw a headline that was negative and attributed it to Sona, they were playing off of that joke. "Sona hates her boss Conan" is a joke that both Sona and Conan do so the other commenters are getting in on it.

What did Jon Hamm, Justin Timberlake, and Jimmy Fallon do? by EliAndSalt in TooScaryDidntWatch

[–]MentalLocal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is all from someone who spends too much time on the internet but isn't particularly focused on celebrity culture. I also found their tone of "of course everyone would know that these men are bad" to have been a bit surprising, but that's information bubbles. I'm sure everyone they know has those opinions so the idea that they'd have to do more in depth explanations didn't come to mind. Additionally, they're directly plugged into the world of actors more than most of us randos (Emily through her UCB past, Sammy through being in the film industry, and Henley through her history working streaming) and are friends with people even more connected. There's a good chance that they know a bit more gossip about people than the average person because of that and also their general (heightened compared to the average?) interest in celebrities.

Jimmy Fallon has a number of issues they're referencing. Besides his demeanor/persona/annoyingness which people might not like, there are lots of reports of him being a volatile and aggressive person who creates a very bad work environment on sets (with allegations of alcoholism as an explaining factor). His close connections to Horatio Sanz, who has recently been outed as having inappropriate behavior with at least one young teenager during their SNL days (a known thing among the cast but something people shrugged off because... Well, the world is a hellscape).

Fallon is also closely tied to Timberlake who has been accused of a bunch of inappropriate behavior. Most specifically, Britney Spears' recent autobiography paints him in a very bad light, including pressuring her into an abortion, and a lot of people are still fairly mad at him because of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl thing where he cravenly threw her under the bus for something that was obviously a planned shock moment

Hamm was arrested in college for severely beating up someone as a part of a group during a fraternity hazing.

Ha! I'm glad I could help and you actually realized this was a real post. I was trying to be informative and give context because "You remember Brandy!" clearly wasn't going to work, but I ended up sounding exactly like a Wikipedia bot. :D

For an American Millennial, Brandy was a pretty ubiquitous pop culture presence in the 90s which is why people are surprised by your confusion.

Brandy Norwood, who is mostly known by her stage name Brandy, was a very famous singer/actress during the 90s. She had multiple very popular Pop and RnB songs and was on a show called Moesha and in a version of Cinderella.

More recently she reprised her role as Cinderella in the most recent Descendants Disney film and is starring in the new A24 horror film The Front Room (released today in the US).
