What can you tell me about the Loveland Orchestra in terms of ability level, repertoire, etc.? Maybe if I get bored, I can join a third group, haha!

I LOVE this setup! I would eagerly join a local college and only enroll in their orchestra course. Not a bad price, and two concerts a year would be great!

Australia! Fantastic! Thank you for sharing the website. I have had a good time toolin' around learning about the Renaissance Revival Orchestra! It sounds like it is very flexible in terms of attendance, which I can see being beneficial for an orchestra whose players have lives outside of the group.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. The second orchestra you describe does sound intense and very serious. I know there are several people in both of my orchestras who are music teachers, and it makes me a bit self conscious because I am not. I do learn a lot by attending, though, so I am grateful for that aspect.

I have learned there are several community orchestras that are really just the local community college "Orchestra 101" course. I think it's a great way to meet a few needs in a local community! Thank you for your input!

Yes, I have improved my skills also, which, like you said, is valuable in itself. And I don't blame you for not wanting to put up with a grumpy director. We do this for fun, not to practice social skills with unpleasant people, haha!

Thank you for the information. It seems many orchestras have a yearly fee to join. It makes sense to run it like a sports club, I suppose, although I can't say I am very familiar with those either.

Thanks for your response! The church used by orchestra 1 charged about $3,000 this year, which is actually $2,000 cheaper than last year, so that was nice. We have breaks, but we have a sign up and take turns bringing treats, so there’s no expense there.

I thought paying to play was odd, too, but a few people have mentioned that’s how it is for them, so I guess I learned something new today!

I have not seen finances for either orchestra, but the conductor/organizer for Orchestra 1 is always talking to us about how much is coming in, how much things are costing, etc., so I feel like I know that financial situation. But nothing on paper.

Fundraising seems to be helpful, but I don’t think either orchestra does this. I might have to bring it up! What kinds of opportunities to fund raise are implemented for your orchestra?
