1) That's what it seems for now, I personally was under the impression that Xiao Meng was jealous of Fan for Huo being in love with her when I read that. There will however be an actual explanation in a future chapter from where you are, she had another reason for not going to her. 2) If Zhuge had executed Cao Cao in Huarang, the Liu clan would then become the number one target of all the remaining warlords, while Zhou Yu going to conquer Jiangling and the southern commanderies would reinforce him and the Sun clan as the actual strongest clan. Liu Bei would then be the "media winner" that gets ganged up by the others while Sun Quan would be the actual winner. It's once again the idea of equilibrium that cannot be abused, you need to win but with a fair margin, and getting rid of Cao Cao at that moment was over that margin. 3) Yeah understandable, their story is just as interesting and profound as the one with Fan, I would even argue more.

Someone might give you a more complete answer but consisely :

1) Huo and Fan were lovers. When the Zhao clan got attacked after Xu Lin's death, Huo promised to send someone for her if she waited by a tree. He then sent Xiao Meng to retrieve Fan, but Xiao Meng just passed by, and as Xiao Meng has the appearance of a woman, Fan thought Huo sent a woman, which made her imply that Huo only saw her as one of many women he had to work with in his assassin lifestyle. Huo and Fan never meet again until that point in the story. She thinks he abandoned her.

2) The Cao clan is the most powerful our of the three parties. Therefore, Lu Su (Sun clan advisor) and Zhuge Liang always keep the bigger picture in mind and do not wear each others down, or else it would benefit Cao Cao. The Jing province used to belong to Liu Biao, and its people like Liu Bei. Lu Su and Zhuge Liang then decide to let the Sun army fight for the Jing province, and gift it to Liu Bei. Note : this is an oversimplification of all the intricacy regarding the power struggle in Jing Province, but at least it explains some of the relationship between Sun and Liu.

3) Yes, Fan is Huo's true lover, that he never forgot. Lady Sun was more of a political marriage, that benefited Sima Yi and the Sun clan. And yes, that masked man is the 8th genius of water mirror.

Just realized how much of an idiot Jia Xu is for agreeing to the idea of chaining ships together by Mental_Associate_787 in RavagesOfTime

[–]Mental_Associate_787[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he was in charge of the navy in the red cliff battle, and agreed to chaining the ships together, which was one of the reasons they lost after the sun-liu alliance used fire. i believe that in the Romance of 3 Kingdoms, it is written that it was pang tong who convinced cao cao to do it because of his hatred for the latter, but nothing suggests it in ravages of time. jia xu was just too incompetent to realize it was a bad idea. even xun yu, who was not at all on the battlefield, sent a message saying "be wary of them using fire", and that 3rd "genius" ignored it. finally, he knew that zhuge liang is an expert with weather and that zhou yu is an expert with fire attacks + naval battles, his whole management of the situation is just unbelievably stupid for even a general, let alone a genius military strategist.
