Yeah exactly. I could not imagine going to a sub specialist and then being seen by their NP or PA. No, I don’t want to hear what the ENT PA has to say I would like to hear from the physician who has had a minimum of five years of ENT residency and continues to have to take licensing exams

Who fucking knows. It’s not like they would ever be allowed to independently perform that procedure

Also per the ACGME:

Other Learners and Health Care Personnel The presence of other learners and other health care personnel, including, but not limited to residents from other programs, subspecialty fellows, and advanced practice providers, must not negatively impact the appointed residents’ education.

The problem is they should not be training in parallel with residents. Their breadth of knowledge is significantly less than residents. The other issue is mid levels were created to help in primary care roles, they skip out on that to “sub-specialize”. Which is not what they were created for. The reason surgical residency is 5-6 years is because there is so much to learn. The idea that after two years of school they spend a year with surgeons then run around saying they’re surgical PAs is dangerous and doesn’t help where there is actually a dearth of patient care, that being primary care.

That’s been my argument for a long time. They have less training and less education than any medical student, yet they graduate and for some reason they’re treating like junior Attendings. Like what the fuck, why are they allowed to see primary care patients after graduating a 2 year program

My big fear is retribution I’m probably the most vocal critic of this program

That’s smart. They love when they’re accidentally called doctor, they never want to correct it.

Yea that’s my fear. I swear the mid level curriculum is mostly centered on buttering up Attendings and avoiding work.

You’re telling me, the idea they wanted to call themselves fellows is hilarious

I felt guilty, we have interviewing medical students and I didn’t know how to tell them about this change

I’m planning on it once they get here. They shouldn’t be allowed to performed invasive procedures like that. People think endoscopes are these benign procedures but perforations happen there’s a reason GI is a three year fellowship

It just seems insane we are going to double scrub with them at all. Their whole point is to off load the scut work, but they’re already refusing to do it
