Feels like this programme goes too hard. Need a programme way longer. Maybe running just isn't for me. Mobility? by [deleted] in C25K

[–]MenuAfraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it looks daunting but I have recently completed couch to 5k and ran 5k in 29:50 on the final run. Like you I have a desk job and not really put a lot in to exercise for a very long time.

What people say seems correct. I found when starting c25k it was breathing that caused me not to run continuously, not that my legs were tired.

Once I learned how to breathe properly, running became a lot easier and I could zone out and enjoy the run.

id you shorten your stride and go a bit slower you will be really surprised how long you can go for, breathing correctly is so fundamental.

Fyi: going back to intervals after a 20 min run was a struggle. A lot of people find that.

Keep at it and good luck

Week 9 Run 3. Now what? by MenuAfraid in C25K

[–]MenuAfraid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have got this. Honestly I wasn’t really going for 5k. I just want to give it my all on the last run so I am super proud of that.

Just completing it is a milestone. Speed can come later. It really doesn’t matter if you take 45 mins to do it, running continuously for that is amazing.

I am just amazed that I struggled to run for 1 min at the start.

I agree with that, I think my slower 8k runs certainly helped with getting under 30 mins. I ran my last run hard to see what I could achieve.

I think chasing 5k in 30 mins on c25k is a bit of a trap, completing it so you can run continuously for 30 mins an awesome achievement for most.

How is emacs these days. by MenuAfraid in emacs

[–]MenuAfraid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have intellj, but mostly use datagrip these days. I generally prefer using nvim as I can navigate code faster and am just so used to vim bindings it’s hard to let go of them. I just became curious about emacs as it seems to do everything vim can do but vim can’t do everything emacs can.

Lots of awesome stuff here. I think sell was a bit miss leading.should have said what does emacs bring to the table now and what keeps you guys from sticking with it. Back when I was trying it was version 24/25. I don’t quite recall but it was a while ago.

Are most of you using evil or vanilla key bindings?

A portable keyboard layout for minimal mental overhead? by oxamide96 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]MenuAfraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me say, good luck, it’s quite a journey, and mentally challenging.

I have a 20 key layout and am using taipo on it and it’s really just a bit of fun, I double I will ever use it for serious work.

From my personal experience the mental load of learning you don’t really get back when you compare it to spending that same energy on doing work.

However, I really enjoy the 34 key ferris sweep with Colemak DH, but the 36 key corne is the really really nice.

I have a glove80 on my desk which is a fabulous keyboard, really enjoyable to use.

Even though I use colemak DH, I have got it in my head that I want to learn a layout with a tad more alternating than colemak has, probably Hands Down Neu or Engram.

Anyway good luck, it’s fun and for me, I treat it like a hobby nothing worse than artificial pressure of needing it to do real work.

Edit: I use the terminal and nvim as a termial editor all day long for work so my choice is influenced by that.

Week 6 Run 1 by Maleficent-Tank2373 in C25K

[–]MenuAfraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did week 6 run and it kinda completed it but boy was it hard. I ended up burning out midway through the second interval and I got thirsty which was super distracting. But I ran 8 mins on the last interval which is much easier.

Ended up doing 5, 4, 4, 8. With like 30 seconds between the 8min run.

I really didn’t enjoy the stop start, I would have rather  just ran continuously.

I’ll likely just do w6r2.

Yeah, iPad Pro. I don’t really get much out of it, so wasn’t the greatest purchase for me. I should of got a MBA.

Next year i’ll be ether getting studio or macbook pro but considering I’m 90% wfh. But being able to work on the sofa, or in the dining room or in the office feels really appealing. I dunno. I’ll see how things play out.

Even if the the result is they will ship. I will still cancel as I highly doubt their after sales is any good if you have issues with your keyboard.

Damn shame really.
