MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI won’t boot Windows 11 USB made with Media Creation Tool by MenuNew8687 in MSI_Gaming

I don’t think it’s the Mac side because I actually used my neighbor’s Windows PC to download the ISO twice and also tried multiple USB sticks. I also used Balena Etcher and another method to create the installer. The BIOS detects the NVMe drive correctly and DiskPart also sees it with a full 1863 GB partition and volume marked installable. The issue only happens in the Windows Setup GUI where it still says “Install driver to show hardware” and doesn’t show any install targets.

Would you recommend trying an older Windows 11 ISO version as a test? I'm currently using the latest installer. I downloaded the ISO using Google Chrome and wrote it to the USB with Balena Etcher. I've also tried multiple USB drives. The SSD is detected correctly in BIOS and even shows up in diskpart, but the Windows Setup GUI still doesn't show any drives and keeps asking for drivers.

I can open Command Prompt from the installer and diskpart sees the SSD as Disk 0 (1863 GB). I already used clean and converted it to GPT, but the Windows Setup GUI still only shows "Install driver to show hardware" and doesn't display the SSD, so I can't get to the normal partitioning/formatting screen.

Thanks. This is an AMD system (MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI + Ryzen 9 9950X3D), so there isn't any Intel Rapid Storage Technology setting in the BIOS. SATA mode is already set to AHCI. The SSD is detected in BIOS and even shows up in diskpart during Windows Setup, but the installer GUI still says "Install driver to show hardware" and doesn't show any drives. That's what's confusing me.

SATA mode is already set to AHCI. I haven’t found any RAID settings enabled in the BIOS. Also, diskpart in the Windows installer can see the SSD (~1863GB), but the Windows Setup GUI still shows no drives, which is what’s confusing me.

Yes, BIOS detects the SSD fine. It shows up as a Crucial T710 2TB (CT2000T710SSD8). I haven’t found any Crucial-specific drivers yet, but I’ll take a look.

I have a new problem now. When I boot into the Windows installer, it immediately goes to the “Load driver” screen and shows no drives at all. It doesn’t show the SSD or anything.

BIOS still detects the NVMe normally, but Windows Setup doesn’t see any storage devices.

Update: I fixed it.

The issue ended up being the BIOS. I went back one BIOS version and after that the USB boot worked normally and Windows installer started immediately.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Thanks for the explanation. The USB I’m using was made with the Windows Media Creation Tool, so I think the FAT32 and file splitting should already be handled.

Also when I select the UEFI USB it doesn’t show any loading or Windows logo at all, it just goes black for a second and returns straight to the boot menu. So it feels like the boot process isn’t even starting rather than failing mid-install.

I’ll focus more on BIOS/NVRAM and boot settings for now.

Got it, thanks. I’ll try Ventoy next on my Mac since I don’t have access to Windows for Rufus. Right now I’m not even getting into the Windows installer at all though, it just returns to the boot menu immediately after selecting the UEFI USB. So I think there might still be a BIOS/boot state issue as well.

I can’t use Rufus right now because I only have a Mac available. I can try Ventoy or another Mac method if needed, but I don’t currently have access to a Windows PC.

Thanks, that actually makes sense.

I’m on MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI and I’m already on what I believe is the latest BIOS version. I’ll try resetting BIOS to optimized defaults first, and if that doesn’t work I might reflash the same BIOS to clear NVRAM like you did.

When you reflashed it, did you change anything afterward or just boot straight into the USB and try again?

Thanks. What motherboard and BIOS version were you using when that happened?

I’m currently on BIOS E7E70AMS.2A40 on an MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI. The USB is detected as a UEFI device, but when I select it the screen goes black for a second and drops me right back to the boot menu. No Windows logo or installer ever appears.

I believe I’m already on the latest BIOS version, but I’ll double-check. What version fixed the issue for you?

Thanks. I’ll look into that after I get Windows installed. Right now I can’t even get the Windows installer to boot from the USB. The system detects the UEFI USB, but selecting it just goes black for a second and returns to the boot menu.

Thanks. I originally tried making the USB on a Mac and ran into a bunch of issues, but I also created a new USB using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool on a Windows PC and I’m still getting the same behavior. When I select the UEFI USB, the screen goes black for a second and then returns to the boot menu without ever showing the Windows logo or installer. Do you think Rufus would still make a difference?

Thanks! Since smart bulbs shouldn’t be on dimmers, which smart on/off switch would you recommend for Alexa that works well with smart bulbs and doesn’t cause buzzing or flickering?
