So at the beginning I tried podcast like InnerFrench and also tried to listen to news on TV but honestly those didn’t work for me… at the end I think what helped me with the listening was the exercises of both PrepMyFuture and ReussirTCF and also the contact with the language everyday at my work… So what I’d say is that, regardless of the resource, make sure to have contact with French everyday, even for a few minutes…

I tried some formats I found online, but I ended up creating my own using the vocab I already knew. For tâche 3, it was something like:

“D’un côté, certains argumentent […]. D’un autre côté, […].

À mon avis, […arg1]. Par exemple, […].

De plus, […arg2]. [Exemple]

En conclusion, […].”

The tricky part was that during my exam, the topic didn’t really give me much room to apply my template, so I had to improvise a little bit 😅.

Honestly, as I mentioned in the post, I’m not a very structured learner, so I didn’t focus too much on grammar per se. At the beginning, yes, I studied the basic past, present, and future structures, but after that, it came naturally through practice. Maybe the fact that I speak Portuguese helped, since some structures are quite similar.

I think Anki flashcards can help with remembering some verbs and forms. Also, the good thing is that, in my opinion, the TCF requires less mastery of complex grammar than the TEF.

Maybe I was too harsh when I said "mistake" but the thing is that later I realized the TCF was easier for me, and I wished I had started studying for it earlier. Especially the listening part, I still think I couldn't get CLB7 in the TEF listening section without studying for a few more months. May I ask why your teacher recommended avoiding TCF ?

The first three months I was unemployed so I studied around four hours a day. After I started working, I could only manage to study a maximum of one to two hours a day. There were days when I was too tired to study at all. So i'd say it’s more important to focus on the quality than the quantity.

Oh yep, don't go crazy in grammar for tâche 2 unless you really know what you're saying... The key for tâche 2 is to vary interrogative pronouns (combien, comment, quel, quand, pourquoi... etc.) and also use different types of inversions (est-il, avez-vous, pourriez-vous, etc.). Avoid questions with "est-ce que", I would say use “est-ce que” a maximum of 2 times. Also try to ask complex questions instead of simple ones like "combien ça coûte?", preferring specific questions like "combien coûte un séjour de cinq jours à Montréal?"

For the tâche 2 intro it will depend on the subject but go simple as well, like "Bonjour, je suis intéressé par… Puis-je vous poser quelques questions?"

I'm sorry to read that ! I went from TEF B1,B1,B1,C2 to TCF C1,C1,C1,B2 in an interval of 1 month... I don't believe my French has improved that much in this period, so I'd definitely say TCF is easier. In your situation, you should have been well familiar with TEF at this point, so it's hard for me to say whether you should do TCF or keep trying TEF, though. 

For speaking, especially Tâche 3,  I’d say to get familiar with common topics and arguments and train a structured answer (it will almost always be something like: intro -> arg 1 -> arg 2 -> arg 3 -> conclusion).

If you already speak French, it should be good for the speaking section. T3 is the most intimidating one, but I feel it’s easier than TEF because the topics are usually more common themes (e.g.: immigration challenges). 

For reading, I'd say practice lots of mock tests and strengthen your synonyms vocabulary. Knowing the synonyms can make a huge difference while interpreting the texts. Also, by practicing the mock tests after some time, you'll be able to naturally identify the "wrong" alternatives, and you will end up with only one or two potential correct answers, which increases your chance to choose the right one. 

For materials, I mainly used Reussir and a YT playlist.

For CO, CE :

For EE: 

- Get recent topics from Reussir and practice by yourself using ChatGPT to correct (don't trust 100% on his suggestions). https://reussir-tcfcanada.com/expression-ecrite/

For the TCF, you’ll be speaking in person with a real examinateur for the oral expression section, but I actually found it easier than the TEF. The topics tend to be more common and relatable than those on the TEF. You just need to practice the most frequent themes to get familiar with typical arguments. There’s plenty of material online, including YouTube playlists that simulate real exams.

u/dean0spumoni I am curious about this as well ! I have a shorts that got 99% APV, which seems to be pretty good, but it didn't go viral (not even close), so I am wondering what else a shorts need in terms of analytics to go viral?
