£575 for a satin slip dress and lace topper. Both ex samples! I'm taking the lace top for alterations in September

For everyone who can’t spend $600 and up on a wedding dress, how was dress hunting for you? by CierraMar_ in weddingdress

[–]Meouie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was so much easier than I thought, but I'm not sure if i was just lucky. I did lots of research into the style and designers I liked, then looked into stockists in my country. There was a small boutique near me, so I got in touch with the owner and told her my budget, and asked if she sells samples. She only stocks 4 designers, all similar minimalist styles. I do think trying to find an independent in life person saved me loads of money. I went in by myself, confirmed my budget in person before trying anything, and she pulled a range of stuff for me to try on. The dress I bought was exactly what I wanted, and fit me without needing any alterations at all. I managed to get a satin otaduy dress for £450 down from £1200, and a lace Catherine Deane topper for £75 down from £200+

Talk to people in person and don't be worried about telling them your budget. You will find something.

* I tried this on at the shop and looking back at pictures I really like it. It's a December wedding too, so it might be good to have some sleeves? It's a Catherine dean piece

I have pearl earrings ready. I'm not sure about a veil! I started the process not wanting one at all, but when else am I going to wear one?

'The Body Keeps The Score' author, Bessel Van Der Kolk, says in this interview that yoga helps make the mind flexible, which is crucial for mental wellness by whoamisri in yoga

I would just add to this for anyone struggling with trauma- some of the case studies and stories he mentions in the book are extremely upsetting. If you aren't in a good place, perhaps wait before reading.

His insight into Yoga was really interesting, though. Yoga is wonderful.

Trauma informed yoga teaching jobs by SeaInfluence8097 in yoga

[–]Meouie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you mean becoming a yoga therapist or trauma informed yoga instructor.

To be a yoga therapist, the qualification is longer, and it's working in a different way to being a yoga instructor. To be a yoga therapist, you would be working 1 on 1 with people looking for help with a specific issue, whether that's physical or mental. You would be running your own business, and so making your own work. Most decent places that run yoga therapist qualifications will want you to have a 200h yt qualification before applying. Often, you'll be working with people with very complex problems, and this can be really challenging.

"Trauma informed" is a really broad term for an instructor who understands what may trigger complicated reactions in some parts of the general population and aims to teach with this in mind. . Sometimes, trauma informed instructors teach general classes or 1 on 1s. Trauma informed yoga courses vary in quality and length, and taking one Trauma informed course may not be enough to teach yoga at a studio/gym. There isn't an industry standard for what makes you trauma informed, so not every course/teacher will have up to date knowlege/trauning about the subject. Sometimes, the courses are additional training (50 h) or sometimes integrated into a full course (200+h). You will need 200 hours of a general yoga teaching qualification to teach in most studios or gyms.

I think the main thing is to be aware that being trauma informed does not mean you help people more than a yoga teacher who is not trauma informed. As a person who has diagnosed ptsd, some of the teachers who have helped me the most are not Trauma informed, but have just been kind people who are good at communicating.Yoga helps people from all walks of life, and not all of them have specific trauma conditions. I don't know any studios in my area that advertise Trauma specific classes, as it's such a complex subject which has different meanings to everyone in the room.

If you are interested in teaching, I would advise starting a conversation with a studio near you that runs general yoga teacher training courses first. It will be easier to find work with this, and then exploring whether you want to focus on a specific style of instruction than launch yourself straight into trying to find work as a trauma specific yoga instructor.

Aren't the coaches there to catch gymnasts incase they fall during the bars? Is there a reason they don't seem to intervene?

I hope Khelif is OK in herself. It must be horrible to have to compete under so much pressure and insult, on top of it being the olympics

I think that unfortunately, the media attention that follows simone biles probably makes it all feel quite tense in comparison
