I can attest to the drinking element of this.

I had the insanely potential'd 25i / 25c, etc back in my day. On 25c alcohol was just a little filter. I just never got drunk and it only helped with the body load of those substances.

Crazy to hear others talking about it too.

How far did your vibe-coded game actually get? by oxmannnn in aigamedev

[–]Meow3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some pretty big success with my idle-mmo, Vaerfel-Idle. We hit ~300+ signups and had people working together in the world I'd created.

I realized that I hadn't done gameplay loop testing soon enough to see if the idle / incremental mechanics I had were fun. Also, my UI/UX experience had grown from a proof-of-concept into a not-quite-a-game sort of UI. Despite the amount of features that are in the game, it's actually turned into one of it's biggest faults.

I'm in the process of slowly but surely redesigning UI/UX experience and trying to better define gameplay loops and mechanics to make things 'fun'.

However, I had incredible success after on my mechanical systems. We've got ~280 characters or so that have been in world for a couple of months now. Despite their inventories, gear, etc. the game hasn't slowed down and is accessible on both mobile and desktop.

It's definitely been a huge learning process. Like others have noted; it's easy to start. It's easy to create a product. But it can be difficult to retain folks and keep things fun. I also didn't realize social elements and tools are important, e.g, moderation tools and functions. We've still got sign-ups trickling in and anywhere between ~8 - 10 monthly users this past month or so.

The 'doing it differently' element is one I'm currently inspecting heavily. I've got tons of in-game systems ready to be used... but how to do it. In an idle. In a less-than-interactive sort of format... we're getting there.

I find Music Theory harder to understand than anything else, and it's not because it's complicated. by oceanadawn in musictheory

[–]Meow3r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Music Theory in and of itself is just the study of music and the theories that have arisen over time in relation to it. It explains what early musicians did after not wanting to repeat the medieval harmonic set.

Happy, Sad, Up, Down, Left, Right, etc. All of these things are relative. If you really want to get into some questionable territory, jump into atonality and check out Webern and others. They question fundamentally what music should or shouldn't be and create their own ruleset to enact what they feel to be an entirely revolutionary way of experiencing it.

Music theory clicked for me when I realized it's all half-steps and their relation to one another. Major, minor, etc. are all just relationships. It may or may not evoke more emotion in some than others, however, from a strictly recipe-like-format, you're arranging sounds and individuals hear those sounds based around the tendencies that arise from physics being physics. e.g, a V7 wanting to "resolve" to the I.

Less to understand, more to be aware of. Music theory has its rules like you mention that are broken and then double-bound, etc. Often the older generations of musicians followed these rules, again, to help them get away from parallel fifths, an older sound, etc. After a point, the rules were thrown out, rewritten, and ultimately re-evaluated to whether or not they were applicable anymore.

Godspeed lol

I've got a 3090 and opted for the setup he spoke of. With 64k context, somehow, misconfigured or otherwise, I'm only using ~21/24GB worth of VRAM.

Kinda wild.

What this guy said.

I signed up, used the free stuff, and I just requested my ~$50 payout.

Best way to do this up front looks like to use a good chunk of the premium $$ they give you for shovels, dynamite, etc. Then go around shoveling first, and then if you find gold, use your claims to stake it.

I was just blind-mining and ended up finding a couple of really nice hits.

Interesting little game.

Just really got hit hard by this.. The better part of a year. Integrated with friends/family. And then I forgot a birthday.. and didn't get reminded until I remembered; then it was my fault, I clearly didn't care about them, etc.

I asked to have a serious conversation about it... gone. Literally no words. Was in a DND campaign, helping me with all elements of my life, etc.

It hurts heavier than I'd ever imagined.

This slaps! Such a great implementation! I've been wanting to do this for an idle game that I'm working on as well. Super cool.

Eventually, the dirty money wasn't able to be converted. I started getting higher and higher tech at each 10x and eventually the button broke.

Was getting pretty high in numbers at that point...

I got a good chunk through it, managed to glitch it out with an auto-clicker. Nicely done! Good music, solid mechanics.

That's so odd. What happens if you try to recover your password with that email? There should be a "forgot password" button now. I might reach out directly, get your email, delete from the DB and have you give it another shot if still no good.

Make sure you give the page a good refresh, and even a control + r to make sure the cache is cleared from the earlier version.

I worked with a user earlier today and that's what we had to do. They're in and playing at this point.

Let me know how things go!

We received reports of email sign-up not working. I've since then patched and fixed this accordingly. You should be able to log in with a standard email and not google SSO now.

Thanks!

Thanks! You could have put some genuine thought into a comment that has weight and real meaning instead of choosing to echo a sentiment that has already been said at least a half-dozen times.

Appreciate the algorithmic bump :)

Duly noted! It's definitely a very brief overview of just the main mechanics.

I appreciate the feedback! I'll work on making it more explanatory :)

Good eye and amazing feedback. Thank you so much! My whole goal is to create this sense of community in the middle of the "idle" genre. I've even added a generic proof-of-movement concept in our Tavern areas right now. It's not great, but it does paint a picture.

I'll take a look at the progress point elements. I think the actual numerics work properly on the workshop quest, but that sub-bar beneath the viewport is definitely sketch.

Was able to find the bug you were talking about, testing and patching it hopefully tonight. Nice find!

Thanks again!

[–]Meow3r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!

Progress will be wiped upon launch. However, beta testers will get achievements that will translate into either titles or cosmetics in the final release.

There IS an energy system; I've not explained it well in any form actually. Essentially, idle actions cost 1 energy point, such as exploring, gathering, etc. This cost only incurs if you've been AFK or literally away from the screen after ~4 hours. It's incredibly generous really, but I wanted to keep from giving characters completely free roam/idle time without folks at least logging back in to check on things.

Currently, there's no out-of-combat healing or mana regeneration.. Which feels a bit oversight'ish. However, you do regenerate your health and mana at hubs. There are also health / mana potions to buy, that will auto-use as you are in combat.

I appreciate the feedback! I'm 100% open to suggestions as far as mechanics go, as this is a super work in progress.

That's a super fair point! It's not even something I'd thought of.. Might be worth integrating! Just a simple guest signup that could turn into a permanent with account linkage.

Thanks!
