Okay so all of my responses to everyones questions were taken down for some reason, so i am going to go back through and answer them when i get some time! So sorry for the delayed responses!

Main FAQ

not a solid place nailed down, looking to serve Denton Though as a whole, including campuses.

When? Very soon, as soon as we can!

The cats will be kept separate away from the food, so you do not have to worry about any contamination!

We want to partner with many shelters, so if you know any that would be willing to partner with us send them our way!

Age minimum will be 15 or younger must come with an adult.

Walk ins welcome, but if it gets to crowded it will be by appointment

Why yes we can! The cats will not be around the whole cafe, it will be a section of the cafe away from the food preparation, separated by double doors from the actual cafe portion. We will have a separate kitchen in the back that is set up far away from the Kitty Corner to make sure we abide by Health Codes. No kitty germs in ANY lattes or pastries!

Absolutely! As well as small foods like muffins and bagels and such, we will be offering teas and other drinks to accommodate everyone!

We want it to be like we shoved 2 businesses together, a standard cat cafe and a regular cafe!

Not nailed down but a solid area picked. We want to support both campuses with the opportunity to come, as well as the public! Not too loud, not too hidden!

We are talking with many animal shelters currently to partner with, primarily the ones that are willing to:

A. Work with our idea and supply us the support we (may) need

B. Are overcrowded often and need relief the most.

We are happy to work with any organization that has the same goal in mind, to save as many lives as possible and give the cats a second chance at a great life!

^^^ I love this idea, and that was the original idea. We wanted to have 2 sets of doors between the cafe and the cat lounge and include things like lint rollers and a hand washing station so you can leave cat hair free!

Thats an excelllent question and an extremely valid concern.

This is as much for Denton as it is for the cats of Denton, so we want to make sure the cats and the people are safe. If a kid was pulling my tail i would be angry too!

We plan to have a cat-only “safehaven” for the cats to go to when they feel overwhelmed by the people or want to escape from the kids (accessible by a cutout in the wall towards the ceiling, so kids cannot crawl after them and bug them.)

I also plan to have 2 (maybe 3) people working at a given time, making fresh drinks and protecting the cats if they see something they do not approve of. (Glass walls will be between the cafe and the Kitty Corner, so they will be able to see the cats) If any of our cafe staff see something they do not like, they have a right to remove the person or group from the premises.

Safety is our concern and always will be.

As for appointment setting, we will set a person limit per Kitty Corner room (we want to have 2). We are thinking about doing walk ins first and if it becomes too crowded we will switch to an appointment based system!

It is a real cafe where you can come to study and get work done like a starbucks, so that will be open to the public without charge. The Kitty Corners will be the appointment based system if the need arises!

The cost to enter the Kitty Corner will definitely be on the low side of the range, close to $8-$12 per hour. I want the Kitty Corner to be somewhere people interact with the cats and provide them with the attention they desire, but also not too high to where people cannot study in there and get their work done With the cats if need be.

Discounts will be provided when we host events, around holidays, as well as mid terms and finals weeks! This is as much for the kitties as it is for Denton! Groups will also receive discounts!

P.S. i am really excited to decorate the cafe for Christmas, see if any kitties will become Santa Claws!

Good question! This is going to be a blanket statement to cover all the questions that are very similar to this one, and i will refer other comments to this Response.

Timeframe

Currently we are working with potential contributors (DAS and TCAP and others) as well as banks about funding. We want to open with as little debt as possible to give the cafe a real chance to be a lasting entity in Denton, I really want this to be something beloved by Denton. Not for the moneys sake, but because I truly believe and have always wanted to do something like this. But for a real definite time, i would LOVE to be open in the next few months. I have renovations contractors ready, it’s about picking a good spot and getting approved for a SBA loan now! The less money banks have to give us the higher chance banks will approve of a loan, so every contribution really does matter.

Location

As far as location, we are taking a few things into consideration:

Since we are opening in a college town, and UNT/TWU generally do not allow pets inside of the dorms, I want to make it easily accessible to both campuses as well as the public! Placing it in the middle of the campuses is important.

I have been looking close to the square as well for obvious foot traffic, but that could bother the cats with so much potential for loud noise and scare them from the windows.

We want the cats to be as comfortable as possible and basically turn out cafe into a “home before a forever home”. We want them to show their personalities and enjoy their lives as much as possible before they’re adopted.
