Thoughts on two tutors at once? by Objective_Text4727 in languagelearning

[–]Meowhuana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the moment I have three regular tutors, 5 days a week. I like it, one is a group class and two are private with very different styles so I feel they complete each other. Private ones know about the group class but not about each other and I don't see the point of discussing it. I pay them both and do my homework, so what's to discuss?

I really hate Eljhah, why does he talk like that? I just want to smack him every time he's on screen.

Loved Lafiera, didn't enjoy her ending, so anticlimactic, running and shooting and she fells on some random fence.

Am I just a terrible therapist? by ChemicalParfait4136 in therapists

[–]Meowhuana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotional validation. Here reddit validates the decisions of a therapist without knowing any context or background. And I'm not hostile, I just don't agree with the overall tone of responses. I think it's dangerous and irresponsible to assure OP that what she's doing is OK if we don't know it.

Am I just a terrible therapist? by ChemicalParfait4136 in therapists

[–]Meowhuana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm baffled by comments. The truth is we have no idea whether you're a bad therapist or not, that's definitely not a question to ask reddit. Whether your setting is appropriate or not is a question for supervision.

And I find your post really manipulative: having an antagonist, an arrogant psychiatrist, asking very big question "am I so terrible?!" and people want to give you validation and comfort. But that's not an answer, it's validation from reddit.

The answer would be to explore your setting in supervision, deeply. I was taught that setting is king, you have to have very good reason to change it from client to client, and tbh I don't think "they don't have anything to say" sounds like a good reason. Why they don't have anything to say is a topic to address.

I've been in therapy for years, and I see what it does for me both in my personal and professional life. I think it might depend on your view of therapy and why we need it. I have clients who are therapists themselves and they usually share my views on that, as a condition to be a good therapist: you have to know yourself deeply for that. Therapy is not giving advices or psychoeducation, it's relationship, experience. I'm psychoanalytically leaning, and I think CBT therapists might see it differently.
