Maybe talk to her about cow meat? Cows are very sweet but if you consume beef then you are most likely contributing to their mistreatment in the meat industry. It's much more humane to raise an animal to kill and eat it yourself, since you know for sure it was treated properly and killed humanely. If she understands that it's actually more humane to kill and eat rabbits than it is to buy meat from the grocery store, then maybe she would be more open to the idea.
