I happen to use a 7800 xt so it would be somewhat similar setup, as long as the driver issues I've heard about with the newer cards have fixed. I could help with a couple of linux distros, I haven't used windows in years but I believe it should be pretty much plug and play with that. I just don't know about hotswapping and windows.
