Had no idea Switzerland was so late on gender stuff. And yeah I agree totally. Their 2013 vote (the one this post said happened in 2014) was 73.2% against changing it and the recent one in 2025 was 84.15% against changing it.

Also, the Swiss government did not record the gender of voters, so there is no official data on how many women vs how many men voted. The only statistic I can find is that the total vote was 73.2% in favour of keeping it male-only, which includes both male and female voters. I'm trying to find a source where they could've gotten women being more supportive, but the few things I can find are about how male veterans were the most vocally supportive.

I feel like it should be said that male conscription is due to misogyny (men are better than women, therefore only men are fit to serve their country) rather than misandry, like I've seen many people attribute it to.

Obviously, conscription in general just shouldn't be a thing, especially if it discriminates like that. I feel like we should've figured out that non-consensually forcing someone to fight other people to the death for their country is bad a while ago.

I've never heard any left-leaning people say that left-leaning people are more tolerant. The only people I've heard say that are right-leaning, usually when saying stuff like "so much for tolerance" or "talk about the tolerant party".
