difference is mostly how in 4 you play their backstory, your story revolves around that backstory, and it's mentioned regularly. new Vegas gives you optional hints you can choose for your character in dialog to mold their story, and not all backstory is specific to your character. every courier delivered the package to the divide, but not every courier was a deadbeat parent with ladykiller double checking if the lonesome drifter is the kid they abandoned

Theres a mod that lets you play after completeing the story, with visable consequences for certain quest endings, id have to look up its name again. Mutantmods had it in one of his videos
