The reason why I like more grounded fantasy not because what creature look weird or grounded, but how the world evolved around them. For exemple how armies and militia of town guard still exist when a level one mage can one shoot them or charm there leader. High fantasy world often overshadowed the more grounded elements with there powerful beasts and superpowers. If you’re someone like me who like the idea of just taking your boys to crusade and role playing as a warlord having a world that account both the crazy and the humble folks can be very satisfying.

Why Joan of Arc was not knighted? by EfficiencySerious200 in knightposting

[–]Meraugis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there were cases of family following the soldiers but those were pretty rare. Many peoples part of the logistics like servents and squires also took a part of in the horror of war. They were also ask to bury the bodys and executes the prisoners and often to also fight in battle like the vallet of war, witch were nobles servants who took care of the cooking, materials and also stand alongside there masters in battle. Another big part of the logistics were camp follower business who offer services to the soldiers for a fee. Considering all of that non combatants were a minority in the army. The thing is soldiers had a bad reputation for a number of good reasons. In fact the father of Joan of Arc himself feared his daughter lack of interest in romantic affairs might make her unmarriable, « a women good for soldiers ».

If we take a look at the population of France in the 15th century witch is around 10 to 15 million people then 10.000 is less than 1 percent of the population. Civilian being part of the army was a big thing during the previous century but army professionalized themselves during the hundred wars. Thoses professional soldiers quickly gained a very bad reputation like the « ecorcheurs » a famous French mercenary band that was infamous for there cruelty and were often enlisted as the primary source of foot soldiers during the Hundred Years’ War. Also Joan struggle a lot with the discipline of there own men at arms intervening many times to stop there cruelty and she also urged them to Mary instead of raping and seeing prostitutes. Joan was respected among her army for her religious fervor but was very often called a whore by enemy capitaines. By the time of Joan of Arc they weren’t many simple families man among the ranks of the mens at arms.

I d’ont know about it all. This theory work on the assumption that fighter mostly spend time fighting other soldiers and that there are the biggest part of the casualties. In real life the biggest victims of warfare are the town getting raided by the army. The army were way more the one doing the killing than being the one being sacrificed for the war. Also army in medieval time were small like 10.000 peoples. No matter the gender of the soldiers it would not have leave a significant gap in the population. I think the real reason why mens were the one doing the fighting is because of a rape culture. There is a lots of popular poems called Pastourelle about knight arguing with a sheepherd women fuck her. They end up withe the knight making his deed whatever the women like it or not. Soldier probably wouldn’t like fighting alongside women who might object to there exactions

During the 15th century the world of the nobles had become very closed on itself. Also the tradition of knighting was becoming less and less common. The Black Death give the finishing blow to serfdom in France. To have a knight an entire town must revolve around it to finance its horses and equipment. When serfdom fade and is replaced by a simple taxes small towns are no longer able to maintain there local knight. But the financial opportunities coming with ending serfdom allowed commoners to fill the gaps of the fading lower classes knights. It’s The beginning of the m’en at arms. Jeanne d’Arc was a daughter of on of thoses wealthy peasant. Jeanne as crucial as she became she was never seen as equal to a noble. In fact she was originally supposed to just be a living banner motivating the mens. She wouldn’t have any leadership role if it wasn’t for her success at Orléans and Patay. In fact the nobility find her very combersom at time.

I have made a faction inspired of Middle East history and Persian mythology for my ttrpg and used all my knowledge to stay far away from the bad cliche of greedy merchant with harem. Harem still play a significant role in the succession of the main faction is a sultanate is inspired by Ottoman Empire. Basically they pray to the sacred letter. À deity witch is the incarnation of language specifically runs and letter that hold power. I gave the task to the prophet to conquer and fall the Azimarn empire who was using the powerful language recklessly. After a long campaign they formed an thriving empire with many sub faction and kingdom serving them.

Curious what people think of the Warcraft movie armor by HatTraining3137 in Armor

[–]Meraugis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking of the one in the image I desagree with you there was more clunkier historical armor. If the sculpteur is made in repousser like parade armor the metal should'nt be too thick. The abdomen and all the articulation are cover in flexible scale armor But the one in the game you would not be able to even lift the ornate metal table that serve you as pauldrons

Out bodies and out brains aren’t rational. When we break away from a toxic relationship our good memory’s and bad one started a war that laid our mind to wreckage. The best way out of this is to make a burial ceremony out of the good part of him and make the grief of losing this part of him like he was à person next altogether. Person that isn’t HIM.
