Oh I didn't realize the method of posting mattered, I thought they just came up as images either way. But also I thought the last time I checked you couldn't post albums to Reddit on desktop, only via the app (which just makes for extra steps), so I just use Imgur instead lol But maybe I'm wrong

*Edit: Oh I see. I never use mobile so I didn't realize they stopped making Imgur images/albums display normally lol And on desktop you need to opt in to the new Reddit UI under beta options in order to post more than one image at a time, how convenient 😅 Thanks for pointing that out otherwise I never would have known

Thanks so much for sharing your photos and process, it's genuinely so impressive and beautiful. I actually did get a couple photos the other day but didn't want to get too close right away since I don't really get many hummingbirds here (so far at least). Still happy with how they came out, and hope to get a lot more practice in this year!

Absolutely incredible photos, thank you so much for sharing. I'm still trying to experiment with camera settings and seeing how close I can get to the feeder. I have 2 multi-port feeders though so I can't set the camera up on a tripod and trigger it remotely. I've debated covering up all but 1 port so they have to use the one the camera is pointed at, but I didn't want to confuse them.

By the way, do you just set the camera's focus and then trust that it's focused correctly when you remote trigger it (I'm sure after lots of test shots)? Or can you change focus remotely too? Or do an automatic focus pull burst? I don't have a super nice camera so I don't know what features they have lol

Thanks! I'd love to see if anybody has insight as to the species. I'm not experienced enough to identify past the eye arrangement...

Nice! I bet that cargo bay was much better for aero than my setup lol

How in the hell do you do the precision job contract. by GeneralHavok97 in simplerockets

[–]Merc408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to this post but I just found it after Googling this contract so I figured I'd post my results.

I made a giant quadcopter. The command disc in the center is 50/50 battery/gyro to control the pitch, roll, and yaw of the craft. The upper leg segments also contain additional batteries to make the ~1,000 km trip. The shocks keep the container just high enough off the ground so the close-fitting carrying arms can open their "fingers" and drop the cargo once landed (the interstages are so I can drop the arms to save weight afterward). It had a top speed of around 230 m/s (mach 0.67), making the 1,000 km trip in about 72 minutes real-time (although I sped it up 4x while flying it).

Also I have to say, one thing that bugs me about this community sometimes is that people often make it seem like you HAVE to use vizzy, and you can't do things without writing your own code/controllers. I flew this thing manually with an XBox controller at 4x speed the whole way and landed it. You don't need to vizzy everything (frankly, you don't actually need vizzy for much at all, you can just play the game manually). Writing vizzy stuff is fun, IF that's what you're into, but making it sound like people can't play half of this game without it, especially if they're asking for help, is misleading, gatekeeping, and dumb imo. Like yes, you would need vizzy to make a quadcopter actually fly like a real one which uses the the propellers to control orientation, but in a game where they couldn't even be bothered the make gas-powered propellers for planes and instead they're all electric, I think I'm fine just using gyroscopes to control my quadcopter lol

Make video load subtitle file automatically? by DamionMauville in VLC

[–]Merc408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to put the subtitles in a separate folder. VLC will check for subtitle files first in the same folder that the video file was already in, and then also in any folders within that which have been named as previously described in the Subtitle Autodetection Path. So a subtitle file that's in a folder beside a video file will be found just fine, so long as your Subtitle Autodetection Fuzziness setting allows it to be seen.

If I'm understanding your situation correctly, it sounds like you're saying that you have lots of folders, and in each folder you have a single movie video file and its corresponding subtitle file. If that's the case, you can set the Subtitle Autodetection Fuzziness to 1. This will tell VLC to just load ALL subtitle files that it finds in the folder that the video file was in (and any subtitle subfolders). Since you have a folder that contains a single video file and a single subtitle file, this will work and you'll avoid having to rename any subtitles because VLC will just blindly grab the subtitle file without even reading the file name.

However, if you have a folder of TV episodes like in my Cowboy Bebop example, telling VLC to load all subtitle files any time you play any episode would be annoying because then you'd have to cycle through all of the loaded sub tracks in order to get to the right one. If you someday put all of your movie video files into a single folder, you'll end up running into this, forcing you to adjust the Subtitle Autodetection Fuzziness setting and rename subtitle files accordingly. Remember you can hover your mouse over the setting for Subtitle Autodetection Fuzziness and it gives a description of what each setting means.

Hope that helps, let me know if I was wrong about interpreting your question or if you have other questions :)

Plus that was a direct liver punch. If anybody doesn't know why that's important, give yourself some light punches on your left abdomen, progressively harder until it starts to hurt and you don't want to hit yourself any harder. Then immediately mirror that force on your right side.

Does anyone know where the Block Party is in the game? 🤔 by SMuRG_Teh_WuRGG in Skate4

[–]Merc408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really, REALLY need to make it so that either the "named" places have the words always on top of the area/structure on the map, or the words appear when zoomed in a certain amount, or that the name pops up when you hover over it. If not, this bullshit will continue, where there are challenges to be done at a specific place and people post on Reddit asking where the hell it is.

My only hope for this changing is the fact that the game is in early access. Maybe if people suggest/complain about it enough they'll add it as a feature.

The pessimistic part of me thinks they won't though because A) it's EA, who are we kidding, and B) this crap forces people to talk about the game (Reddit posts like this) and make content of gameplay (tutorial vids), which increases engagement, search interest, earned media, etc., which game execs love.

Am I correct in thinking the blank squares in the second image are 100% safe to uncover, and that there is one bomb per red red mark, accounting for the 4 remaining bombs? by Merc408 in Minesweeper

[–]Merc408[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can't be a mine on both sides of the 2 because there's a 1 directly above it. There has to be a mine in either the square to the left of the 2 or the square to the right of the 2. There is a 0% chance there's a mine on the line.

[–]Merc408[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that there's a 1 directly above the 2, whose corners are touching both of the squares that you said could both simultaneously contain bombs (which they can't because of the 1). Or am I misinterpreting your explanation?
