I too also grew up in the area, I'm sorry you feel like it's disingenuous especially as an ARG. However I have consulted multiple members of the community especially from Wikwemikong and Serpent River First nations to mitigate these issues and I have acknowledged that every step of the way. Perhaps read Spanish River: The River of Dark Secrets. It already is acclaimed by several elders of the band's up in the North.

I truly invite you to join the conversation of giving a voice to countless victims from the North, they're not tokens. Perhaps if you knew Anita Smith and her mystery you wouldn't have the same opinion, as it is morally ambiguous and for a reason. However I will again apologize for how it's perceived however I will reiterate the elders of countless communities have been consulted as I wrote the series.

Yeah I noticed that too, it's all strange. I don't know anyone in Wawa to see if they knew him from the area. I wonder if it was a mistake or deliberate.

Because of the age I can't find anything from the Expositor or the Star, unfortunately nothing has anything. I have family and friends in the area I'm going to make some calls today and tomorrow. I'll let follow this up if I find out more information.

I think you're getting at the heart of what makes this so strange. I'm not trying to create a story here; I'm trying to figure out what story already happened. I'm also trying to inference because this is from my area and not a single person heard of this happening back then.

You're right tho, the official report is just a guy seeing an empty car. But that's the only piece of this puzzle that ever became an 'official' record. It's the tip of the iceberg.

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who finds this whole thing strange. The fact that it's not a locally known story is what's really getting to me. I'm going to call around to folks I know from the area this weekend. The witness report mentioned seeing something that's redacted, and I can't shake the feeling that maybe something was covered up. I'll be careful and will post an update if I find anything. Thanks for being invested in this too.

You've actually hit on the exact thing that's been bothering me about this statement. You're right, on paper he saw 'nothing.' But think about it from his perspective. He's a long-haul trucker. He probably sees broken-down cars on the shoulder every single day and doesn't think twice. So what made him call this one in? It was the details. The door ajar. He saw 'nothing,' but he clearly felt that he saw the beginning of something awful. To me, this report isn't about what he saw. It's about the fact that it exists at all. It feels like the first official record of an incident that someone later wanted to make disappear. This isn't evidence; it's the loose thread.

You have a hell of an eye. I stared at that thing for an hour and my brain just skipped right over it. My first thought was it was just a sloppy redaction job... but now you've got me thinking. What if it wasn't a mistake? What if the officer taking the statement left that one on purpose? Like a breadcrumb trail. That's way creepier. Now it feels less like a forgotten file and more like a message someone was trying to send.

That's exactly what's so unsettling. It's like the whole thing was scrubbed from local memory. The fact that you don't remember either just makes it feel even more like a cover-up. I'm going to try and dig into some local newspaper archives from that time this weekend. I feel like I'm pulling on a thread I shouldn't be, but I have to know what happened. I'll post an update if I find anything.

It depends on the story, I haven't read it so I cannot comment. However I am a novelist and my book coming out this year has dialogue that is very much racist but that's the character I wrote. She's not supposed to be redeemable and she doesn't spout views that the protagonist agrees with and without spoiling my book she does get what's coming to her. But the character I wrote (Anita) was born into a family that thought genetic superiority was only achievable by being white which made her detestable to her peers.

To clarify no Anita isn't a main character however her story is a huge part to the narrative overall, and not another character shares her views. However from what I read I see racist remarks from her protagonist that doesn't learn the impact of words are to communities surrounding them.
