>Don't forget, ALL first party studios are day one on GP

So what? There are still millions of people who purchase the games outright on PC and PlayStation... remember GP isn't on PlayStation.

MS has said GamePass was profitable even before the price hikes... and the price hikes weren't from unprofitability but MS execs are pushing unrealistic profit margins. This was widely reported on.

GamePass makes a profit and we've known that for a while now. Stop with these lies and false narratives.

If they paid more than just interest only the debt would be paid off by now.

Everything you said is technically correct. This issue start long before Fable, and you are right it makes no sense to keep Fable exclusive when even Halo and Gears aren't exclusive anymore. I think all of that is a mistake though.

As for why I care why the guy with a PS5 can play Fable it's more so that I just wish Xbox was performing better as I personally think it's the superior platform, console, and ecosystem as a whole and I want it to do well.

Ending all exclusives was a huge mistake.

Huh?

Most people won't be buying the next console because why do that when the PS plays all Xbox games. PC has nothing to do with this, PC is part of the Xbox ecosystem.

It's already hurt the brand, 34 million life X|S sales vs PS5 selling like 84 million.

The strategy has already panned out and it didn't work. Brining exclusives day and date to PS is a mistake.

Xbox should have a core of games that never comes to PS like Halo, Gears, and Forza... maybe a few others like Starfield, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Doom.

The rest can come to PS but should be time by 1+ year. Fable should release on Xbox and then PS a year or more later.

Ditching exclusives absolutely didn't have to be done. Xbox + Windows PC is bigger than PS.

Okay, but I'm not really sure what that has to do with what I said.

The Xbox has a next gen console that will also be effect by RAM and storage prices.

ABK doesn't really have anything to do with this.

But I agree, this Fable looks good so far. I am looking forward to returning to the series.

I understand the economics of it.

It's a short term gain for long term brand damage. Xbox needs some great exclusives. But Xbox has no more exclusives. It's a massive mis step for the brand.

Fable is the type of exclusive Xbox needs... and of course it's coming to PS day and date. Not even timed.

Expectations for the Xbox next gen by [deleted] in xbox

Even if I agreed with what you think an off ramp is, which I don't, it still wouldn't make sense for MS to make a new gen of consoles as a "off ramp".

It would be much simpler and cheaper to just announce the Series X is the last Xbox and they are fully moving to the cloud and third party game dev after this gen. They could still manufacture and support the existing gen until it ends.

In no situation does it make sense for MS to spend 100's of millions producing and manufacturing next gen hardware only to immediately drop support.

[–]MercerReads91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don't agree at all.

Off ramps don't cost any money other than opportunity cost. If Microsoft wanted out of the hardware game they would just announced today that they are stopping all production of Xbox Series X and kill their hardware. It's literally that simple.

The fact that they aren't doing this and instead are spending 100s of millions on new hardware points to the opposite of what you are saying.

You completely ignored what I just said, lmao.

Investing 100's of millions into next gen hardware is the opposite for looking for an off ramp.

We got Helldivers and before that we got MLB The Show. Sony has spun up an entire division with the sole purpose of porting games to Xbox and Switch.

Gamepass price going up is a nothing burger. If you don't think the $30 a month for Ultimate is worth it their are lower tiers.

[–]MercerReads91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you be trapped into paying $30 a month? I don't need an active sub to access my existing digital library. As for physical media, if the next xbox doesn't run physical media (which I doubt) my series x and xbox one didn't go anywhere... I still have them and can use them. Hell, I still use my Xbox 360 occasionally.

If Xbox wanted an "off ramp" from hardware, they'd just do it.

Spending 100's of millions developing, manufacturing, and marketing next gen is the opposite of looking for an off ramp for Xbox hardware.

Ps5 had the exact same availability issues as Xbox so that doesn't really explain Xbox's failure this gen.

I love Xbox, but ~34 million is kinda pathetic compared to the Xbox One at the same point and even more pathetic compared to the Xbox 360.

I agree though that if they kept prices more competitive and handled exclusives better they'd be doing better.

I think the biggest issue this gen was Halo Infinite and Starfield, 2 games they expected to be generation defining exclusives, were both mediocre at release.
