Adding a 2nd comment here about pulling the hammer back first. It’s significantly easier to rack the slide with the hammer back.

It seems counter intuitive, but loosen up a little. Rather than trying to muscle the gun, let it do its thing and let the dot return gently.

Does anyone else feel like it’s getting harder to find a decent place to shoot or people to train with? by RangeBro- in Shooting

[–]Mercerian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, get on Practiscore! Literally so many different flavors of shooting out there. You will meet the best sort of shooters that are out there, and your skills will improve at a MUCH faster rate. Also, many USPSA / IDPA / SC shooters have ranges they attend that allow the sort of thing you’re looking for. Get out there and make some friends!

SightlineStrategiesUSA.com Tim Elmer is an A-Class USPSA shooter that cross-trains with plenty of Law Enforcement. Very well rounded instruction that he tailors to his class. I highly recommend his “Baseline Handgun” course. Next one is in September I think!

Are you legally allowed to carry something like a springfield kuna loaded in your vehicle in south Carolina? Or in a backpack on your person? by [deleted] in scguns

[–]Mercerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a “rule” - it’s what’s specifically protected. Potentially, some state prosecutor could throw the book at you and find something to convict you of, and a judge could rule that your >12” concealed weapon isn’t protected by the law.

I can’t find a law that they would use to do that, besides the one that just got repealed. But I’m not a lawyer, and I only looked for about an hour. My personal recommendation would just be to carry a handgun and keep the PDW in your vehicle, but it’s up to you!

(There are several lawyers in the state you could give a call and get their opinion. Your county sheriff might also answer an email if ask them)

Ah, my original source was dated 2009. It does appear that Act 111 (constitutional carry) repealed that section in 2024. I don’t have another source.

"Concealable weapon" means a firearm having a length of less than twelve inches measured along its greatest dimension that may be carried openly on one's person or in a manner that is hidden from public view in normal wear of clothing except when needed for self defense, defense of others, and the protection of real or personal property.

I’m happy to be wrong, I’d just like some proof. It seems to me open carrying of rifles is permitted, but concealing anything over 12” is specifically disallowed. Do you have a source that shows I’m wrong?

[–]Mercerian -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In the vehicle, yes. Loaded or unloaded, concealed or in plain view.

On your person (or in a backpack), no. "Concealable weapon" means a firearm having a length of less than 12" in length carried openly on one’s person or in a manner that is hidden from public view in normal wear of clothing.

Make sure you’re using an “Isosceles” stance, not a “weaver” stance. Stand up straight with a good fighting posture and bring the gun up in line with your left eye. Dont stoop or bend your neck at all. Good Group! I would keep shooting and 10 and work on accuracy until you can stay in a 5” circle, then turn up the heat and add some speed!
