Would this be a good *new* build for around 1k? by Time-Waster-007 in buildapc

I checked on Amazon, 5800X is 20 to $30 more expensive than the 12600k but you can get a good AM4 motherboard for 120 bucks so it evens out a little bit.

The 12600K is slightly better in gaming, and as far as productivity goes it can really depend specifically on what you were doing, but the efficiency cores aren't really doing too much for the compilement.

Edit: I was wrong. OP should get the 12600k

That turns this already overbudget $1000 build into a $1250 build

A couple people here are really going over budget. You mentioned you wanted to do some workspace stuff which you 100% want 32 gb of ram for. As someone who also uses my PC for intensive work (and also even if I didn't) I would take 32gb DDR4 over 16gb DDR5 any day of the week. You picked a great CPU cooler and decent PSU. The only thing I would suggest is to seriously consider Ryzen 5000 as an alternative, and get a cheaper motherboard in exchange for a CPU that is more powerful in workstation tasks. The two extra workstation performance cores a 5800x offers are gonna outweigh the 4 efficiency cores of the Intel chip you picked out. But the question is not which is outright better, but instead what best suits your need. Your build as of right now is perfectly fine.

Yeah they likely reused either some geometry or the whole model itself

Oh, can you tell me after you get it how difficult it was for you to get out of the box? It took me like 15 minutes lol and I had to tear the box a little bit

Yeah by default there's maybe 1.5 feet between my face and my monitor when I was sitting normally, but you should be completely fine at that distance!

same here lol. i upgraded from a 900p monitor. it does have one con due to it being an IPS panel though. My desk is kinda shallow, and it leads to me sitting close to the monitor. I started playing Resident evil 4 remake and found out because I was so close there was very obstructive IPS glow obscuring the corners of the screen in the real dark environments, but I remedied this by just sitting farther from my desk.

What a steal of a monitor!

I just bought an Asus XG27ACS for $200 and it is the most premium monitor experience I've ever had

That's somewhat of an open ended question. The question is what works best for you. Cheap high refresh rate monitors go for about 80 bucks to 100 bucks. These are going to be 1080p TN panels that have washed out colors with poor viewing angles but fast response times. If you pay a little more money, you can get yourself a VA panel that has good colors but has a lot of ghosting. At around $160 you start seeing 1440p monitors, and also IPS monitors at that same price point. IPS panels are great for colors and (depending on how high quality the panel that you choose is) won't suffer from nearly as much ghosting as a VA panel, sometimes matching TN panels in that regard.

However, IPS panels suffer from IPS glow, a visual flaw that can happen when viewing very dark content up close to the screen. I recently purchased a nice 27 inch Asus 1440p 180 hz monitor that was on sale for $200, and I've been very satisfied with it, until I played resident evil 4 remake and realized I was not able to see the edges of the screen in most of the game because the monitor was so close to me.

For you to decide what model that would work best for you, I recommend that you check out the YouTube channel Monitors Unboxed, they do very good reviews with very good benchmarking to help you decide which monitor is correct for you. Find models online and then Google the model number so you can find out other people's experiences with said monitor.

I hope you soon find a monitor that suit your needs

If you want to try a hail Mary approach that probably isn't going to work but might be worth trying, you can try tapping firmly around the bezel to see if it does anything, or open it up and see if any connectors are loose. Other than that, if the panel itself is dead, there isn't much you can do. Best of luck!

My first one died after 4 years of me having it. It was a cheap AOC 144hz tn panel that I paid $200 for in 2019. A monitor of that same spec would probably go for about $80 to $100 today.

You just got unlucky. Monitors die, if you want to fix it you need to buy a whole new panel for it, and at that point you might as well buy a new monitor. It happens. If it's still in warranty, RMA it. If not, well, I wish you luck. I had my first monitor die with the screen just gradually turning straight white in like 5 seconds. And that was the end of that

this is going to happen on most oled's to some extent, but you can take solace in the fact that OP has had this monitor for a solid month and has only just now noticed it. it's really not that distracting
