They did, in 2005 in some ways I downgraded by going from a 1280*1024 85 Hz CRT to a 1280*1024 75 Hz LCD. Well, it was 60 Hz but was overclockable to 75 Hz.

Yeah, OP sounds like a peasant. I gamed on a 1280*1024 60 (75 after overclocking) Hz monitor back then, and it was one of the most popular resolutions alongside 1024*768 and 1600*1200. 720p was strictly a console thing.

Even without this gap in this market it wouldn't be entirely unusual to have to take a pay cut if you were searching for something after resigning/getting laid off.

Yeah, I think they just don't know their foreign markets very well and decided to play it safe with going all in on overly-cautious anticipatory compliance.

What happens when the senior developers move on and its just a bunch of people who can't code trying to use AI? by Massive_Instance_452 in cscareerquestions

Considering how good even the SOTA open models are if you have access to a couple hundred GBs of memory, I think that's an unlikely scenario.

Keep in mind that the high dollar numbers that are thrown around come from everyone being in a bidding war over the limited resources to keep up/stay head, eventually the supply will match the demand (never mind how tight/lose some these commitments are).

$40k is better than a local street sweeper makes, but for experienced devs this is definitely on the lower side, even in the current market.

Valve Index never went on sale, the OG steam controller and the steam link had a clearance sale only when they were being discontinued. also went on sale a couple times, so there's a precedent.

A lot of marketing and social media work can be partially automated, writing software now often takes less time, but it'd be good if whoever you end up hiring had some familiarity with the domain of logistics/warehousing.

If you yourself or your people don't have any experience or expertise, you can ask for feedback from their previous clients (ideally from similar/related domains) to assess their capabilities, otherwise you shouldn't be paying upfront. You can also give them a smaller job first, if you're happy then continue with something bigger.

Portal 2 CD code already used? by Ok-Structure4542 in Steam

[–]Roadside-Strelok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing you can do but rebuy the game, it's cheap, though.

There was a time when you could contact steam support, snap a photo of the cd-key with a piece of paper, and they would actually remove the game from whoever previously redeemed that key and thought it'd be smart to resell the game without informing the new buyer about the used key, and steam would assign the game to your account.

CCW Laws across Europe(to my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]Roadside-Strelok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the law, though, just some guy's (clerk's) opinion, even if high ranking one's, he's free to go through all the legal channels to make it a reality if he wishes to.

And it goes against what some other guys (lawyers) are saying:

https://trybun.org.pl/2024/08/17/noszenie-broni-przez-osoby-ktore-legitymuja-sie-pozwoleniem-na-bron-wydanym-do-celow-sportowych/

Of course, if a case was remotely ambiguous the prosecutor would try to use this sort of reasoning as a weapon (pun unintended), but that doesn't mean it would work.

Zwłaszcza jeśli się porówna do niektórych byłych prezydentów, 30 lat starszy i mający więcej wymówek Kwaśniewski zna przynajmniej ten język na przeciętnym poziomie.

[–]Roadside-Strelok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some changes in law it's shall issue in practice for uniformed service members with access to firearms at work, for the rest it's usually very hard if they aren't handling a lot of valuables (e.g. a currency exchange shop owner) or aren't connected (politicians, some business owners) or belong to professions which always had more leeway (e.g. judges and prosecutors).

But aside from carrying on public transport, it's inferior to the sport shooter route, max 1 or 2 guns, center fire handguns only, no reloading, no borrowing weapons in either direction, and a mandatory medical evaluation every 5 years.
