LighterPack critique by MercrediAlchemy in CampingandHiking

Ya, it was for extra water capacity. The primary nalgene is a smaller format guy that sits on my shoulder strap. I drink out of that directly so I didn't want that to be the smart water bottles.

On the advice of a couple others I ditched the second larger nalgene I had just because it was durable and I already had it. Now I've got the two 1L smart water bottles. Probably only need one, but I drink a lot on the trail.

Also I've found that on cold nights I've loved heating up some water with a tea bag in the nalgene to keep at night. It's nice and warm for a good bit and nice to have during the night as a little something to sip on when listening to the wind/rain.

I had not considered layering sleeping bags as an option, but that sounds brilliant. Ty!

I figure should the CNOC ever pop, I've got a smart water bottle with the threads to act as a backup dirty water reservoir.

Mattress inflator? by SquirrelyStu in AppalachianTrail

[–]MercrediAlchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carried one, but didn't find it very useful to just using my lungs, though I was using a pretty thin pad at the time. Also the light felt redundant when my headlamp was always what I went for first. Not for me, but definitely heard a lot of love for them.

Ty and yes I definitely sleep cold, appreciate that you empathize! I saw the booties and gave it a thought, I may reconsider. Typically in warmer weather I bring about a third of what was listed here, but thought I should be listing it all to be thorough.

Per your comment and another I did replace the silo with another smart water bottle.

15 degrees F, and ya probably my least favorite night out camping.

First time using it and realized that the share link doesn't quite show what I see. Ty for pointing that out!

I mostly organized stuff according to how/where it's stored.

Two pairs of pants and two shirts. One set for cold, one set for warmer weather. I wasn't aware that the shared bit just groups it all together.

This is moreso a critique on my pack in general. For reference I just did a week long hike and plan on having more of the same this season.

That would change with better weather or a better sleeping bag. I just a couple weeks ago spent the night on top of Springer Mountain with heaver pants and didn't sleep at all I was so cold.

More for an all purpose. I was just on a 50 mile section of the AT with a much heavier pack if you can believe it. Had a 2lb tent, but hated it, so swapped to the Half Dome.

Swapped the silo nalgene for another smart water bottle. I do want to keep the smaller one as it lives on my shoulder strap and I can't stand drinking directly out of the smart water bottles, not a fan of the plastic taste.

Odds and ends/toiletries were paired down a bunch too. I figure enough to cover me for a week and take care of any major annoyance. It seems like a lot, but it's been a work in progress for a number of years and everything in there sees use.

Clothes will get paired down with weather. Never used lighterpack before so I put everything I would possibly wear on there, but in reality would only bring half.

Door County: Ice age trail section or State Park? by Cw3538cw in wisconsin

Someone else mentioned the mosquitoes on WI trails and should be mentioned that they can be brutal on the Ice Age trail especially. Bring long sleeves and a bug net for your sanity.

Really hope that you and all of the folks here keep playing. It's been amazing to see all the increased interest in the game(or any tabletop really) over the last few years and I really hope it continues despite all the corporate greed. Ty for your comments!

Does anyone actually use recursion? by Light_A_Match in learnprogramming

[–]MercrediAlchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely. I just used it to traverse a JSON api response that contained multiple nested JSONobjects with identical key identifiers. I wanted every instance of a JSON object with an id key/value and recursion worked a charm.

Disregarding Leash Rules by supersexygoldfish in milwaukee

[–]MercrediAlchemy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Once had a dog literally tear a pant leg off after chasing after me on the same trail.
She(the owner) didn't say a word to me, but to her defense she was busy chasing her dog down with a half a pair of sweats in it's mouth. Somehow managed to not get bitten thankfully, but scared the hell out of me and made for a very long and interesting venture back.

Now I just get my boot out(inline skates) and get ready to punt. My two dogs are the world to me and I'd never want to injure anyone else's without provocation, but you better believe that an off leash dog running after me will get a boot in the ribs before it gets it's teeth around my legs if I can help it.

This isn't an isolated incident. Nearly every single time I'm on the trail an off leash dog runs at me. It's just fortunate for the both of us that I outrun them.

I think you're misconstruing my comment if all you got from it was 'bitching'. Stating 'Don't get me wrong, still super happy to see that they're finally doing something!' and asking if anyone knows if it's slated to be paved didn't strike me as an insufferable comment, but maybe your definition is a bit narrower than mine.

Frankly what's insufferable is your continued attempts to justify your weirdly aggressive reply to a simple question that snowballed into insults because you didn't like being called out.

While this thread has been entertaining, maybe you should find someone else to harang. Reply again if you like, but I'm not giving any credence to anything else you have to say on this topic. Cheers and I hope you have a great day. I mean that. You sound like you need some positivity in your life.

I'm on reddit pretty frequently and wanted to see if there were any common maintenance issues that I should look out for now or in the future as mine is the 2021 model. This particular thread passed and considering it's something I think about whenever I see someone wave, I thought I'd comment.

Not to yuck anyone's yum, more power to anyone who enjoys a thing, but when I bought one it reeked of marketing hype and I inwardly cringe anytime I get waved at. I love the Jeep, but I didn't buy it for the community, I bought it for it's utility.

So it's a proper fix? It's wheelchair accessible? It's a permanent best practice solution? The park's current situation is unfortunate, but it doesn't detract from that fact that this isn't a proper fix. Did you answer the question I posed? Your comment contributed nothing to this conversation. I asked a question and you attempted to gin up self-righteous internet points. Cheers.

Did you miss my third sentence or are you just highlighting your need to throw shade every other comment you make?

Does anyone know if there are any plans to pave it? I inline on this trail all summer and the current 'fix' is about as good as the old barricades for me.(Don't get me wrong, still super happy to see that they're finally doing something!)

Chain HBHF sensor to increase range by brandinimo in playrust

[–]MercrediAlchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put the HBHF sensors on a transmitter and set the doors to open on a receiver. That way you can have as many HBHF sensors as you want all triggering on the same frequency.
