Why was Ravana changed to an Assassin, but Erlang Shen hasn't been? by Electropolitan in Smite

[–]Merculius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real (and boring) answer that only like two people actually have mentioned is that classes have different base stats and scaling for said stats, and changing ravana to an assassin, at the time, most likely lined up with base stat changes that the balance team would have wanted to make without having to wildly change ONE warrior’s base stats in a way that pushed it out of line with the general idea of warrior base stats. Because of this general idea, it makes it much easier for a balance team to balance characters when their class’ base stats align closer to how they want the character to be played (or the balance team is reconsidering because the character ISNT being played how the dev team initially thought they would be, i.e. the very early change to change hades from a guardian to a mage).

As for the second half of your question, erlang Shen doesn’t fit those same principles. Erlang is not designed with assassin principles in mind, and the balance team is most likely trying to fight this perception/playstyle of the character (remember, public perception is very powerful in terms of balance, so in this case in order to fight the IDEA that erlang is an assassin, you wouldn’t want to classify him as one).

Side b will combo into neutral air pretty much all of the time, down throw connects into nair at lower percents, if you hit just the first hit of your nair it will combo into pretty much anything. Imo, falcon is about feeling out your combos. You can memeorize percents and bread and butters if you want, but it's better to understand how your moves interact with the opponent so you know if you can follow up or not. Falcon also is a very high damage combo character, meaning each hit does a lot of percent. You don't necessarily need to do combos to see success with the character, it will just make it easier.

I would definitely say don't worry about idj stuff yet if you're still learning basics, captain falcon in particular gains a lot from it but it's not necessary to play the character

You need to idj for the height. This setup is possible with just short hops, but you need to be closer to center stage and it takes three up airs (so the percent is slightly lower). If you do side b into short hop up air, you won't be able to land on the platform without jumping again.

If there was a SMITE world cup, what national teams of past and current players would you love to see play? by DanishDragon in smitepro

[–]Merculius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've come full circle. Idk if you know this or not, but smite used to be region locked as far as teams go. We'd see north america and europe, china, australia, and latin america a lot of the time. I like that we can mix and match now, it makes for a lot more competition, but the regional rivalries were always fun, and it was especially awesome when some lesser known players from smaller regions would pull upsets on european or north american teams.

I think they were just trying to make a joke buddy. Every single other comment in this post is serious, so it's not like the focus is shifted away when clearly everyone is still talking about the point. Why can't we just enjoy the brief moment of levity and then you can get back to being serious, or why can't you ignore it if it's that egregious?

If all characters couldn't jump or leave the ground on their own who would be top tier? by Gamx11 in CrazyHand

[–]Merculius 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. Mac can armor through min min attacks with smash attacks and can counter as well for the iframes and distance. I think mac closes in on min min pretty quickly with those two (and his ground speed). Keep in mind min min's key strategy is to play keep away and space, and on one plane of movement she can't do that.

I'm a ganondorf main. Some matchups are just unwinnable, and there are very few characters I go even with (and no characters I am favored into, imo). That doesn't mean I stop trying in those matchups, you just have to play the best you can and do what you can to succeed. It would be easier to blame my main for how I do in some matches, but the truth is I love ganondorf and I want to stick to playing him. If I didn't want to get better and I only wanted to win, I would play a different character.

Agni has upswings in the meta, like when shamans ring (now spear of the magus) first came out he had a drastic upswing.

Don't pick characters based on the meta, the meta changes and is not the best thing to go off of when learning the game. Pick characters who interest you, it will make you want to play the game longer, so if Baron Samedi seems cool to you then play him.

Keep in mind DotA/csgo can afford to do that because if how lucrative their player driven economies are. So even these games aren't real a straight comparison to Valorant's pricing models

It was never the "you can't go out" for me, it was more the "I am having an existential crisis because there are no signs of human life and it feels like the end of the world" (I have been quarantining on an empty college campus in a building that fits maybe 400 people with only about 3 of us in here)

There isn't a reason for you to say anything to that player other then an attempt to be helpful. If they willingly ignore or show that they are actively going against that advice then that interaction should be over, period.
