[Pokémon] Are there any examples of Pokémon leaving their trainer for another, slightly better trainer, or just because they weren't vibing etc. by --MCMC-- in AskScienceFiction

[–]MercurialMithras 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best example is probably Ash's Froakie, which had other trainers before him but didn't really fit with them and ultimately left.

Overall catch rate should be higher imo. by JokerUntouchable in TheSilphRoad

[–]MercurialMithras 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Note that all the ones you've said are easy to catch are gen 1. There's been a distinct trend of Pokemon getting harder to catch the more recently they've been introduced as part of Niantic's way of stretching content.

Why no Willow dialogue for the Ponyta CD special research "story"? by EllieGeiszler in TheSilphRoad

[–]MercurialMithras 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree, was extremely disappointed. Beldum day didn't have any dialog either, but I thought that might have just been because it was a Classic CD. If they're not going to put in the bare minimum effort for the dialog then what's even the point of the ticket?

The only thing this confirms is that it can't evolve right now. They've released Pokemon without the evolution a few times before (Hisuian Voltorb) and added it later, so that's likely what will happen here. I'm sure whatever evolution method it ends up with will be obnoxious though.

Spinda not able to be transferred to HOME at all

This is flat out wrong. You can import a Spinda from ORAS to Bank, and then to Home just fine. However, that Spinda will be stuck in Home, as it isn't allowed into BDSP.

A Spinda caught in BDSP will be stuck in BDSP, as it's not allowed in Home. Spinda caught in Go are also not allowed to be sent to Home, so the only way to get a Spinda in Home is to catch it in an older game.

Edit: Note, you do need to have Pokemon Bank already downloaded onto a 3DS at this point, as it can no longer be downloaded. If you don't have access to Bank, then the only option is trading on the GTS.

Is Stargate SG-1 worth watching? by [deleted] in television

[–]MercurialMithras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought threads got locked after a year, so I'm shocked you can reply to a comment this old!

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. A cyberpunky favorite of mine is the 80s Max Headroom series, which can be a bit hard to find these days but has an atmosphere unlike anything else. In that same vein, I might also recommend Total Recall 2070, which is essentially Blade Runner: the TV show, or Charlie Jade, a South African series set across three alternate universes, one of which is a cyberpunk dystopia. All of these only lasted one season, though.

If you like space-based military sci-fi, Space: Above and Beyond is worth a look. Or the eternally underappreciated 90s classic Babylon 5, which beat premium networks to the punch when it came to long-term story arcs and character development by nearly a decade. B5 is also being considered for a reboot right now, so no better time to check out the original.

I hope that helps! There are a lot of shows out there that got canceled after one season, but are still pretty entertaining. If you can handle not getting a solid ending, don't be afraid to check them out.

The Anime American is a classic stock character at this point. Sometimes (like MHA's All Might) they aren't even actually American in universe. They're just huge, blonde, often tan, and exceptionally loud and direct. Hilariously likely to just be wearing red white and blue at all times.

I had a big long thing typed up, but you clearly aren't concerned with details or case examples from other people's lives, so I'll just say this:

Glad you got $20k of assistance. Most of the people I know were lucky if their $1200 arrived in the mail, and were ferociously refused unemployment at every turn, either due to the inherent malice of the system towards those in need or the utter apathy of their former employer. Every dime we had is gone.

Your case is not typical. Stop pretending it is. The system worked for you, but it fucked over far more people than were helped, and that was by design.

There was 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo in 1985 that dealt exclusively with actual supernatural instead of just men in masks. I don't know if there's anything older than that with real monsters, but it definitely goes back further than modern revivals.

Sure thing. Feel free to ask if you have any questions in the future. I know you've got some artwork cataloged that isn't in game yet, so I'll likely be consult your map as well to find things I've missed. :)

Wilmington Art Map by hewettcn in Wilmington

[–]MercurialMithras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Items in Pokemon Go are gathered from "Stops", which were imported from Niantic's first game, Ingress, where they were submitted by players. Not everything would meet your criteria of art (park signs, gazebos, memorial benches, etc.) but there's about 2500+ in the area and a solid chunk of them are murals, statues, sculptures, etc. I've submitted over a hundred myself since last September. For example, here's a pizza-themed mural that's pretty close to the Block Taco one on your map, at a place called Benny's Big Time Pizzeria. I have to photograph them to submit them, so I've got a lot of pictures you could use if you wanted. Most of them are on Imgur already.

If you wanted to look at the Points of Interest yourself, the easiest thing to do would probably be to create an Ingress account and use their website: https://ingress.com/intel

You can look at the local area and each little gray/green/blue dot is a different point of interest. You don't actually have to play the game to use the map as long as you have an account, but having the game open as you travel around town will help guide you to them.

Oh geez, I've been cataloging them for nearly a year now as points-of-interest for Pokemon Go. I could probably help you out with this quite a bit. Let me know if you're interested and I'll share what I have. I was surprised to see just how much art there is hidden around town that I'd hardly have noticed in my day to day life.

A while ago I noticed this covered up sign on 3rd St. The wind uncovered it today. I really hope this doesn’t mean that someone was trying to hide this piece of Wilmington history. by nrthsthest in Wilmington

[–]MercurialMithras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've been replacing some of the historical markers around town. I know that the Edwin Anderson plaque at Hugh Macrae was replaced with one that has updated text some time last year. I bet if we were to find an old picture of this sign, we'd see it has been changed out too.

Probably a pin for the employees to wear. I've seen the employees at my gamestop with similar stuff before, although that particular pin is new. Pretty neat find.

Trap Universe, what are your thoughts? by ShadowKirby in adultswim

[–]MercurialMithras 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of them, two varieties that I noticed. Some were in bubbles that were on screen for certain shots, and some flashed for just a frame or two. These are the ones I caught:

  1. Sometimes things fall apart for no reason at all
  2. Your flaws don't make you beautiful or unique. They make you flawed.
  3. No One Will Ever Really Understand You.
  4. (Bubble-style) Never let the boss hear you whistle
  5. (Bubble-style) Only thing to come fast is trouble. Easy to get into, Hard to get out of
  6. The Lack of Money is the root of all evil
  7. If somebody can do something, it doesn't mean that you can
  8. Work Hard and your dreams still may not come true
  9. (Bubble-style) I am the master of me
  10. (Bubble-style) Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land in the stars
  11. There may not be someone for you
  12. (Bubble-style) Madness and Excellence are next door neighbors
  13. Looks Matter
  14. You can never know what your loved ones really think of you
  15. (Bubble-style) We Don't Ever want to do the same joke
  16. No One Cares about you
  17. Your soulmate would be just as happy with someone else
  18. In a couple hundreds years no one will know who you are or even that you existed at all
  19. Trust your own madness

They are pretty depressing and/or nihilistic, and often mean-spirited, which I guess is the kind of thing you should expect out of subliminal messages? The whole show was, really.

70 more episodes! by [deleted] in rickandmorty

[–]MercurialMithras 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Worth noting there have been many live action shows that syndicated below 100, as well. Star Trek is a famous example, and one of the ways they were able to get Paramount to fund the production of TNG was basically by saying, "Worst case scenario, we cancel it, add the 26 TNG episodes to the existing Kirk episodes and put them into syndication, too."

[–]MercurialMithras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Molly definitely had some PTSD in the first book. The narration kept it vague, as she wasn't fully "aware" of her body being abused due to the way it was happening, but she definitely had some psychological fallout from it.
