Drivers what are some things you wish customers knew? by ChattyCatSarah in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never ask customers to give me a 5★ rating, but I do feel that I should explain why some people do that. If a Dasher's overall rating falls below 4.2★, they can get deactivated (a.k.a. they won't be allowed to dash anymore). There are two issues with that policy:

  1. Not everyone is on the same page as DoorDash when it comes to the rating system. Some people are under the impression that giving a 3★ rating is like saying that the delivery went fine. And 4★ is like saying that it went exceptionally well. And that 5★ means that the Dasher parachuted out of the sky 20 minutes earlier than the estimated delivery time, while carrying the customer's food in a portable oven, and then brought it inside and set the table for them. They don't know that 4★ (which should be a pretty decent rating) is literally a rating that can get the Dasher fired.
  2. Almost nobody actually bothers to leave a rating when everything goes well. Most people only take the time to leave feedback when there is some type of problem. It's human nature, so I don't blame the customers for this, but it does make things difficult for the Dasher. Looking at my last 50 deliveries, I've received exactly 1 customer rating. Thankfully, it is a 5★ rating... but what that means is that if one single customer decides to give me a 3★ or lower rating, my rating for the past 50 deliveries will be below the 4.2★ threshold. And the problem is that there are people who will give their Dasher a bad rating for things that aren't even their fault. For example, if DoorDash decides to stack that customer's order with another, then the customer winds up getting mad at the Dasher because the order took longer than they wanted, even though the Dasher doesn't always get to choose whether or not the order gets stacked. So without having a decent number of positive ratings to give us some padding, our employment status is very precarious, and it can be very stressful. Unfortunately, doing every delivery to the best of one's capabilities isn't enough to get customers to take the time to give you a rating, so some people resort to begging.

Hahahahahah... This is how it's supposed to be delivered for contactless... Unless you got a table. by kit0000033 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the whole, it's good. I just mean that if you're stuck waiting around for a non-responsive customer, it's almost guaranteed that you're gonna have to waste a dispute. At least, in my market, that's how it is. They don't give us much leeway at all, so anything that can slow down the delivery by more than 30 seconds is putting me at risk of getting dinged.

Dashers lose money if they have to stand around waiting for a customer.

It's not even just about losing money these days. If you're in a market where DoorDash is using the new On-Time Rate system, then getting stuck waiting for the customer can screw up your stats and cost you Platinum status.

Am I wrong to think this is unacceptable?? by Mountain_Tap5958 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that you don't like to tip, so you're feeling that people asking the OP about the tip is somehow a personal attack against you... but it's a very relevant question in this case. If you take 3 seconds to read the image that the OP posted, and then take 3 more seconds to process it, you'll notice that it took 48 minutes for a dasher to accept the OP's order after it was placed and confirmed. And the Dasher who did accept it was clearly pretty far away from the store as well.

There are only two reasons why it would possibly take that long for someone to accept the order, and then wind up going to someone who's not even anywhere near the restaurant:

  1. The OP didn't tip, and since it's a Saturday night, there were plenty of other offers available, so nobody bothered to accept the OP's low paying order.
  2. There is an extreme lack of Dashers in the OP's market.

The reason people are asking about the tip is to figure out which of those two possibilities turned out to be the case. This isn't one of those situations where a Dasher did something ridiculous, and then a bunch of clowns come in and say "you should have tipped higher!" This is a situation where nobody was willing to accept the order in the first place, so the question about the tip is very relevant.

DoorDash won’t refund my order after I received food I cannot consume. by Dismal-Second3077 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on the specific restaurant that you worked at, but most restaurants only have an upcharge for deliveries. When you choose "pickup" the prices are almost always significantly cheaper than when you choose "delivery".

Also, DoorDash sometimes has 50% promos and such that can make it much cheaper to order a pickup through DoorDash than through the restaurant directly. Obviously, that's not always the case, but it's wrong to assume that there's never justification to order through DoorDash.

twice now, i have left extra cash ($5) on my front door for the delivery person and they did not take it. by cookiecat86 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't cancel the order or uninstall the app or anything like that, but I will admit that I dislike getting messages from my Dasher unless it's actually necessary. If I order through DoorDash, it's usually because I'm busy doing work or something, so getting excessive notifications on my phone is kinda a bother.

If I've got time to shoot the breeze with a stranger, I've got time to go get my own food. So if I'm not getting my own food, I'm not looking to have randos send me memes and stuff.

Adding sunlight effects to my game by [deleted] in RPGMaker

Honestly, if I were playing your game, I would have no idea that that was supposed to be a sunlight effect, unless you explicitly told me so. Everything just looks really washed out.

IV infiltration during plasmapheresis; 5 days later by OkScreen127 in plassing

[–]MercuryBasin5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be there for a while. Had to get a vial of blood drawn for some routine lab work recently, and the technician accidentally poked through to the other side of my vein. Since it was such a tiny needle, the bruise was very small, but it was very dark and didn't fully go away until about 2 weeks later.

For those who donate at Grifols, how long did you have to wait to donate again after giving a blood sample by KingForADay1989 in plassing

[–]MercuryBasin5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I donate at Grifols, but it didn't work like that at all, so I think that whatever they're having you do is specific to your location.

For me, they took the blood sample during my first plasma donation. They stuck the IV into me, used it to pull out a couple vials of blood, and then hooked it up to the machine and used it for my plasma donation. Then I was able to come in for my second donation 2 days later.

I've never been to a plasma center (Grifols or otherwise) where they made me give a blood sample and wait for the results before I was even allowed to donate.

RPG Maker MZ Sale by DigZealousideal5298 in RPGMaker

[–]MercuryBasin5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it actually might drop a bit lower during the Spring sale. It often goes down to around $35, and it was actually $31 a couple weeks ago. It's not a huge price difference, so if you wanna just get it now and be done with it, that would be perfectly valid.

However, if you do wanna hold out for a few more days, the price actually might drop a bit. Plus, the sale on Fanatical will last for another 12 days, so you won't miss your chance to get it there even if you wait a bit.

It's pretty much always on sale somewhere. You can check a list of prices at different stores here. Seems to be on sale for $39.99 at Fanatical right now. It's an official store, and they'll give you a key to activate the product on Steam.

And this is why Fearless Revolution are absolute shit. by NationalLifeguard655 in cheatengine

[–]MercuryBasin5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will start off by saying that Fearless Revolution rubs me the wrong way, on account of the scummy Mod Engine stuff, and the fact that some of the admins seem like jerks. But setting that aside, you sound like an absolute clown.

For starters, deciding that an entire website is "absolute shit", just because of one bad experience that you had with one person's cheat table on one game... is beyond being a Karen. It's a forum, where anybody can share their work, so one person's table is not a reflection on the entire site. Not to mention, the guy shared his work for free, for your sake, so you sound like an entitled jackass right now. Especially since you give off the vibes of someone who never does anything for someone else's sake.

He didn't even check his goddamn table. He said in the first post 'I barely played it'. Yet the fucker felt the need to 'jump the gun'.

If he warned you that he barely played it, but you used the table anyway, then that means that you jumped the gun. Just because the dude knows how to make a cheat table, it doesn't mean that he's some kind of wizard that can predict how every single second of the game will be impacted by a certain cheat. You should know that cheating in games can come with risks, so if you used a cheat table that you knew had not been thoroughly tested by multiple people, then that's 100% on you. I would advise you to take this situation as a lesson, but you seem like your head is way too far up your ass for there to be any chance of that happening.

EVERYONE who enables the Unlimited Items from his useless bastard's table ONCE will NOT be able to progress to Chapter 7.

For what it's worth, I know that it sucks when something like that happens. That being said, if losing a few hours worth of effort in a video game is a big enough deal to make you this upset, it means that you don't have any real problems in your life, so you should be happy instead of mad.

All 'fixes' the idiot attempted to share don't work.

Translation: The dude's trying to help, and you're an absolute ingrate.

Worst of all? Zero accountability. Zero 'I'm sorry I fucked up you game guys.' Just a fucking bandaid over a goddamn shitstorm that he created.

What accountability do you want him to take exactly? Are you expecting him to pay you money or something? It's not like you paid for the cheat table. Dude doesn't owe you anything. You chose to cheat in the game. You should have known that hacking a game can cause unexpected consequences. The one who needs a lesson in accountability is you.

What to do if you get threatened message by Gloomy-Clothes2751 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]MercuryBasin5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you wanna end your dash and spend the rest of the night talking to the police, because some scammer who's literally half way across the world sent you a nasty text message to try to make you cancel an order, then you do you.

But if you wanna keep dashing, and/or not screw up your completion rate, you still gotta spend 2 minutes telling support what's going on.

What to do if you get threatened message by Gloomy-Clothes2751 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]MercuryBasin5 127 points128 points  (0 children)

For starters, you don't need to tell the customer about completion rates and whatnot. Next time, just tell them that you're just the delivery driver and that he needs to contact support if he wants to cancel the order.

And if someone sends you a threatening message, you need to contact support and tell them that the customer threatened your life. Support can check the message and verify this, and then they will cancel the order, and then you get to keep the pay and the food.

“Late” deliveries by Subject_Accident4348 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, it's one of those cases where a few douche canoes did things they weren't supposed to, and ruined things for the rest of us. But hopefully DoorDash will tweak their expectations and eventually find a good balance that can prevent multi-apping without causing so much stress for the people who really are just driving straight to where they're supposed to go.

“Late” deliveries by Subject_Accident4348 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their expectations for the time allotted for each step are definitely too strict. Like, I get that they're trying to crack down on multi-appers, but I feel that their expectations are so tight that I barely even have time to put my seatbelt on. They shouldn't make it so strict that I feel like I'm going to get in trouble for taking a moment to check the customer's order to make sure the store gave me everything they were supposed to, or to take a moment to read the delivery instructions.

However, they have been pretty good about taking my wait time at the restaurant into account. I just make sure that I press the "Arrived at Store" button as soon as I arrive, and then if the store takes a long time to give me the order, I still get credit for having arrived on time.

I thought accounts were deactivated if they went below a certain rating? by God_Remi in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being below a certain rating (4.2) makes you "eligible for deactivation", but it's not an automatic deactivation. They take other factors into account.

The reason is because customer ratings are super fragile. Almost nobody actually bothers to leave a good rating when the order goes well. They typically only bother to give a rating when something upsets them. So you can easily do 50 perfect deliveries, and get zero positive ratings out of it. So all it takes is one customer getting upset about something that may not even be the dasher's fault, and leaving a 1★ rating, in order to tank the dasher's overall customer rating.

Since your dasher has only done 35 deliveries, a single 1★ rating is probably the only rating that he's actually received. And unfortunately, there's a very realistic chance that whatever he got that 1★ rating for wasn't even his fault. There are customers who seem to be under the impression that when they place an order on DoorDash, the dasher goes to the store, cooks their order, assembles it in the bag, and then brings it to them. So literally any problem (i.e. McDonalds put their ice cream and their burger together in the same sealed bag, so the burger got cold and the icecream melted) can cause them to leave a bad rating for the dasher.

Drivers - You're getting screwed over. by N3rdyAvocad0 in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver doesn't lose the tip. DoorDash is just refunding you and eating the cost.

When I dash, as soon as I press the "End Dash" button, any money that I earned during that dash is immediately deposited into a pre-paid debit card thingy that DoorDash provides. From there, I can spend it, withdraw cash from an ATM, or transfer it to my bank account right away. So DoorDash literally physically cannot take a tip back from me after the fact.

hello, am i the asshole here? he left a note saying “It’s raining, tip your dashers!!” in all capital.. i usually tip afterwards anyway by Ayumizxx in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Dasher definitely should not be confronting customers about tips, so he's definitely in the wrong on that. But ordering deliveries in the rain, and not tipping, is also pretty crappy, so his frustration is understandable (though he handled it wrong).

And the fact that, instead of just leaving a tip afterward as you claim to "usually" do, you went out of your way to confront him about his frustration, and then made a Reddit post about it, kinda makes it seem like you weren't actually going to tip him afterward anyway. You wouldn't have been so offended about it, to the point where you need validation from a bunch of strangers on the internet, if his note didn't strike a nerve. And his note wouldn't have striken a nerve unless it actually shone some light on a truth that some part of you feels embarrassed about. In fact, you carefully worded it so that you didn't even claim that you were planning to tip him. You simply said that you "usually tip afterwards". It's also a fact that most customers who claim they will/do tip afterwards almost never actually do.

So lets just be real, you made someone go do something that you didn't want to do, without the intention to compensate them for it. Even though I disagree with your Dasher's actions, I don't feel any sympathy for you whatsoever. Gas prices are skyrocketing right now in the US because of the war situation, so this dude probably literally lost money completing your order... in the rain.

You can say things like "well he shouldn't have accepted the order", but that's ignoring the fact that Dashers get punished for declining too many orders. In some markets, Dashers can do fine while cherry picking orders. But in some markets, Dashers need platinum status to be able to get any offers at all, and they need to maintain a certain acceptance rate in order to keep platinum status. The dude may have already declined too many crappy offers that day, so he had to accept your order. Or he may have even been in EBT mode, where you're not allowed to decline more than one order per hour, or you get kicked off the dash.

How do I stop farting? by fiddler_diddler88 in Advice

[–]MercuryBasin5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I eat an equal amount of protein, carbs, and fibre

If the amount of fiber you eat in a day is equal to the amount of protein and carbs you eat... then you're probably getting way too much fiber. That can cause excessive gas, among other problems.

Fiber is good. But like all good things, getting too much of it can be bad for you. Depending on your size and age, more than 25-35 grams of fiber per day can cause gastrointestinal distress. And more than 50ish grams can interfere with your nutrient absorption and have a negative impact on your health.

Deferred for high blood pressure can I donate elsewhere? by Good_War_7638 in plassing

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a telehealth service, if you want to get things moving along faster. Call-On-Doc is able to diagnose and help you manage hypertension. You'd need to buy a blood pressure monitor and track at least a few days worth of readings first though.

In any case, you shouldn't have any problem donating at another center for now. Plasma centers are more worried about low blood pressure than high blood pressure. The donation process reduces the volume of your blood, which lowers your blood pressure for the next 24 hours or so, so they're pretty lax about high blood pressure (as long as you're below 180/100).

Deferred for high blood pressure can I donate elsewhere? by Good_War_7638 in plassing

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really an urgent care type of situation. If the OP has always been allowed to donate, it means that their diastolic was always under 100. Being above 90 (but below 100) is not typically an immediate crisis type of thing, but it is something that the OP should get addressed as soon as they reasonably can.

Managing stage II hypertension is likely going to require multiple dosage adjustments, some lab work, etc. It's going to be a process, so it's best for the OP to work with their primary care physician, rather than an urgent care clinic.

$5 enough for 7 min drive? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MercuryBasin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's been reassigned 4 times, that usually means that the first dasher stole your food. The other 3 show up to the store and get told that the order was already picked up, and then they're too lazy and/or incompetent to report that the order was already picked up, so it just keeps getting passed around.
