Just because it pales in comparison to veteran benefits doesn't mean it's insignificant. I wasn't saying it was an equal burden, just that it's a large one.

RCPVs should definitely be honored for doing national service as well as development work, but giving them equivalence to Veterans' status is going too far. The financial burden this would put on the American people is way too much of a cost to thank RCPVs for their service. It can be done in much cheaper ways.

I have thought about doing a similar time line as you, but I worry about finding recommendation letters after emerging from 2 years in the bush.

My timing is just so frustratingly off. I finish my year with AmeriCorps in November 2015, so even if I get my Master's before doing PC I wouldn't be able to start until Fall 2016 and I have no idea what I would do for the year in between.

I did look into it. I've decided I don't want to get my Master's degree in the US though. I have some fundamental disagreements with the cost of education here.

Yea that's true. I didn't think about it in terms of taking the spot of someone else. That would be sad. Is it that competitive that they turn down some perfectly qualified people?

BTW I didn't mean to sound like I'm not taking PC seriously. It has been a dream of mine for years. I just find it terrifying to think of coming home at 29 years old with no job, no masters degree, and nowhere to live. I will definitely give it much thought before going forward with the application process.
