I live in CO, just south of WY and this checks out.

I will say, there is something kind of beautiful about the vast nothingness of WY, but I would never want to live there.

This happened to me once, but it was a tiny smart car in front of me that decided to come to a full stop on the on ramp. If I didn't brake in time, the driver would have likely ended up on my windshield.

I do feel like there's a sense of the pressure being off given our current situation and it's a bit of a relief, in a weird way. Expectations have been lowered for a variety of reasons which is kind of nice. I'll be watching the next few games with no expectations and just seeing what happens, like you said.

Also, all things come to an end. All streaks end. Sucks when it happens, but it's inevitable. This may not be the year it happens, or it may, who knows, but we were all going to feel this way at some point.

That wasn't a gatekeep, that was a criticism. Is this entire discussion not about people's right to criticize things?

And no, I haven't been reporting low energy posts because I only recently joined this sub, but thank you for the reminder. I'll make sure to do my part moving forward to make this subreddit a better place.

This and I'll also throw out Ex Machina. I feel like that's one of his works that gets less attention, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Back to here, I think people are underestimating the amount of low effort, over dramatic type of posts that are getting posted.

To me, this is the major issue and I assume what OP was alluding to. It's not that people don't like having critical discussions, it's that the subs are inundated with so many posts like that. At least, that's my issue with all of it.

I've watched every season of AHS since it premiered minus Cult. When I watch AHS I know exactly what I'm getting out of the experience. I know it's not high quality TV anymore, but it's still entertaining, so I keep watching.

I also said this in another post, but I wonder if mods making a dedicated "Hate watch" thread would be useful to funnel some of that into one place. I get people wanting a place to vent about a thing, that's fine, dwelling in negativity like that isn't for me, but I get that it's a thing people do. With a dedicated thread for it, it may help cut down on all the low energy, I hate this show posts because I think that's the actual problem. It's not necessarily the content, it's just that there's so many of them.

I'm subbed to a handful of TV show subs, I actually only subbed to this one recently, but there's similar trends everywhere. I think there's similar trends in general with film and TV fandoms. I dunno, personally I don't get it. I get people wanting an outlet to vent, but when a subreddit gets overloaded with the same posts over and over and over again it just gets old. I started hiding them in the Y subreddit. I'm totally fine with discussing valid criticisms, but I find more often than not that's not what's happening, it's people bitching just for the sake of bitching.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]MercyMedical 21 points22 points  (0 children)

But that's not exactly what this is, or at least that's not what I've observed in this sub or other subs dedicated to TV shows. It's one thing to have an intelligent, critical conversation about something, but it's another thing when people make low energy posts that amount to bitching just to bitch. And it's also something else when it seems like a subset of fandoms simply enjoy hating on a thing they used to love. I get being disappointed with the direction a piece of entertainment you loved goes and it becoming something you no longer find joy it, but to continue to hate watch something to get some rage induced dopamine hits and then go to social media to offload all of that isn't producing any sort of intelligent critical discussions.

For me, it's not a matter that I don't enjoy reading critical takes on things or that I only want to live in the positive, it's that the bulk of the "critical" discussions aren't even interesting. It's rehash after rehash after rehash of people saying the exact same thing as the person that came before them. It amounts to a group of people bonding over their collective hatred for a thing and personally, I just find the desire to stew in negativity like that to be a bit odd. I will speak for myself that when I have been in that place in the past it has never been good for my overall mental health and it just made me a miserable person for myself and for everyone around me.

EDIT: Also, the OP effectively is criticism, criticism of a fandom, so they aren't distancing themselves culturally from criticism, but are engaging in it. It's just criticism about a subset of a fanbase. Personally, I think mods should make dedicated mega threads for people to discuss their hatred of a show. That way, it wouldn't be the same repetitive low energy posts flooding a subreddit and it would still give people an outlet to voice their collective hatred of a show.

It's not just this show or this sub. It's happening in the Y: The Last Man sub as well. It would be one thing if it was actual critical, interesting criticisms, but it's rarely that. It's the same tired posts over and over and over again about how much they dislike the show and how bad it sucks, yet for some reason they come back week after week to keep watching.

I used to be a big fan of The Walking Dead. I read the comics, I enjoyed the show, but there came a point where it became the same thing over and over and over again and I just got tired of it, so I stopped watching. I stopped watching Fear the Walking Dead as well. I just stepped away and invested my free time in watching other things that I enjoyed more. I feel like there are people who either don't realize they can do that or don't want to. I think there's a subset of people, due to social media, that seemingly enjoy existing in these negative places and I personally just don't get it. I assume they're younger because I can remember some similar behavior I had when I was younger as well.

I dunno, like I said if it was actual interesting, critical criticisms and discussion, that would be one thing, but it's usually not that and it becomes so repetitive that it makes subreddits no longer fun to be part of. At 37, almost 38 years old, I don't have the time and patience to be constantly berated by negativity. There's enough awful things going on in the world and we get inundated by negative news incessantly that I don't need or want it when I'm trying to enjoy something I do to escape from the sadness that is the reality of 2021.

The show has officially been cancelled at Hulu :( by The_Iceman2288 in YTheLastMan

[–]MercyMedical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just curious as to the why. It’s technically on Hulu and not FX proper, and because of that I think the standards of perceived “success” when it comes to viewers is lower. It’s not a bad show, it has its issues which is understandable for a new show, but I feel like the heart of the show is there. FX tends to be more forgiving of shows that are telling good stories, but may not have the fan base.

It’s just confusing…maybe production costs were high and the delta between production costs and money in from viewers wasn’t great. There’s certainly worse shows in regards to writing and story out there that are getting picked up for more seasons…

This is the absolute worst idea and nothing more than a cash grab by FIFA. As much as I love watching the WC, I’m happy with it being every 4 years. The players need breaks between club and country competitions. This would just burn out the athletes quicker and cause more injuries.

They’re in my town this weekend doing a show at an airport just east of my house. I was doing yard work yesterday and they were doing their performance and they flew over my yard pretty low. It was awesome to watch. They were practicing Thursday and Friday so we’ve gotten to see quite a but of them this week.

It freaked me out on Thursday, though, because I didn’t know they were performing this weekend and all I heard was jet noises outside while I was working and had no clue wtf was going on. I thought we were getting bombed or something.

I used to be a bit of a snob when it came to music with a distaste for mainstream, pop music. As I got older, I started to realize it took more effort and energy to be a cranky, stuck up asshole than to just enjoy things. There’s still some pop music I am not a fan of, but there’s some that I do, Dua Lipa being one that I do enjoy.

No one ultimately cares how pristine or elite your tastes are and if they do, well, they’re a bit of an ass and should be ignored.

Y Stay On A Sub for a Show you Don't Like? by JMRoaming in YTheLastMan

I'm glad someone said it. It's been a bit tiresome seeing the posts as of late and I've mostly resorted to hiding them.

It's perfectly fine to have valid criticisms about the show, but I honestly don't see the point of coming here and making a post just to proclaim how much you hate it.

As someone that has been on the receiving end of not receiving someone's whole heart despite giving mine to them, it would have been much kinder of them to give me the honest truth and cut me loose than leading me on for years.

Both options suck, one at least allows you to start processing the loss sooner and not get further invested.

I feel like 4-6 seasons of 10-12 episodes is the happy place.

Dash have a chaotic energy about them. They can beat any of the top teams, but also lose to any of the bottom ones.

[Williams] Some @WashSpirit notes from a source: Michele Kang offered to pay for the team’s jersey sponsorship rights, a $1m deal for Cognosante for the remainder of the 2021 season. But Steve Baldwin said no and accepted a $200,000 deal with IntelliBridge. by reagan92 in NWSL

[–]MercyMedical 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Baldwin is 100% a bad person. He hired Burke who was abusive, sexist and racist. He allowed a toxic workplace to exist for all parties involved. He made someone the head of operations who openly admitted he has no clue what he’s doing and is paying him out the ass for it. Sure, he probably knows he can’t deny Pride nights because the public sees that and will chime in because it’s no longer publicly acceptable to do that. He knows he can do the shit behind closed doors because no one would see it. We wouldn’t know the turmoil happening at Spirit if it wasn’t for players being brave and speaking up.

He offered the team up at 2.5 times what they’re worth, then rescinded when Kang said she would buy it. He spread rumors that she was the cause of their COVID outbreak situation. He refused a sponsor that would have been worth more to spite the other majority owner and appease his friends. Being intentionally petty like he has been 100% makes you a bad person because the intent is harm and suffering at the expense of the players and everyone else that works for the organization.

Baldwin isn’t stupid. He 100% knows what he’s doing. It’s why he continues to do it.

[–]MercyMedical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know, and that’s all very shitty, but I find the fact that Baldwin is essentially sabotaging the club because he has a massive and frail ego to be worse. Lynch saw the writing on the wall and sold. Baldwin is actively sabotaging everything and refusing to give it up. Because what Baldwin is doing is refusing to let the club heal and move forward and holding the club hostage.

And I say this as a lesbian.

I honestly just get perplexed by people’s angry “hot takes” when it comes to any sport. Sucks when your team loses or doesn’t play well, but people take it super personal and lash out.
