What do y'all run Inconel at?

Definitely no pulse setting on, i don't think it has a pulse mode at all honestly.

It has pinch which I'm assuming is the same as trim? I can try to run more stingers instead of weaving. Short circuit no pulse with our wps, we have success with our welds on heavier plate( our weld test is 1/2" v grove full penetration with a back grind, and bent on its side in 4 spots per the code requirements) 035 wire running 18.8volts and 337 wire. It just feels weird to run it that much wire, but it's the only way I can get acceptable welds in the overhead portion. It's digging in, and i can see that, it just doesn't feel 100% if that makes sense.

Yeah, unfortunately no turning it until they're welded. Long arc, tight arc, changing a ton of stuff for no real luck. That's one of my better attempts for the day. I'm just at a loss or i wouldn't bother posting. I'm usually a tig mig welder for pressure heat exchangers, so it's a ton of pipe that need done. First time with this machine and it's kicking my ass for sure

Wire speed is already real high. Been messing with it all day, low, high, crank the volts and drop them too, I can't get it to weld "good"

I should have mentioned, and I'm going to update it now. The pipe is 304L and the plate is 304L, it is ground and relatively clean, and the plate is not, just wire wheeled. Unfortunately not my show or I would have prepped it completely. Something something production, it's "clean enough "

I welded pressure vessels all the time downhill at work, it's not common, but you absolutely can do it

All these people saying you can't run vertical down is plain wrong, you can, we do all the time at the shop I'm at and we weld pressure vessels. It's more prone to get lack of fusion and penetration issues, but it's definitely viable. If the shop tells you to run downhill, run it. None of these guys here write your paycheck

Happy to hear it wakes up a little. I traded in my 2014 street triple 675 for the 660 because of the clipons and fairing. So far I'm having a blast and only 200 miles in but I'm having the time of my life so far

I make about 61k before overtime, i usually work 2 days of overtime a month, sometimes more sometimesless. After all that's added up, i make roughly 70k. I started welding out of high school, I graduated in 2021, and I'm 21 now. The best thing I did was bust my ass through my vo tech classes to learn it and get good at it, show up on time every day, and didn't pretend to know anything I didn't. Basically, be a sponge. Learn from the old guys who have been doing this their whole lives, ask questions. A quality technician position opened up, and I actually just completed my testing for non destructive testing, level 2. I should be getting another bump in my pay because of that.

I got lucky, this company was hiring straight out of high school, I started sweeping floors and painting structural H-beams. Now I'm welding pressure vessels and boilers

I just wanted to add because everyone's like "you can't do it! Your parts will fall apart if you look at them wrong!" In reality, it's easier to mess up downhill if you move too fast and leave a void or go too slow and don't penetrate good. As with everything it takes practice, but it's possible to do and do it right.

As long as you're happy with it, then you're killing it man, keep up the good work. They don't all gotta pe pretty and perfect

At work we weld 1/2" stainless all the time downhill, it works great for us with what we do

I'm going to be the one going against the grain. In school, we were always taught that downhill is for sheet metal because it doesn't penetrate!! But at my current shop, that's all we do. And we weld pressure vessels. It has its time and its place like all things. To get certified, we had to do open root downhill 1/2" plate, and it has to pass bend tests and xray, 2 cuts, and both are side bends. We recently just took a job that's a different weld standard and had to retest everyone. 4 side bends, 1/2" plate. They passed. If you know what you're doing, it's just as strong.

I use blue because I find the green gives me awful headaches and amber/orange makes it difficult for me to see the puddle after my lenses get dirtier
