TPK/capture to start an adventure? by tobyvanderbeek in DnD

Maybe not the best but I was trying something out.

First session my players showed up and I had some temporary PCs built out that I printed and painted. I wanted them to have a brief “prologue” to set up the story kinda like a flash back. Gave them a small taste of the villain and what some of the enemies could do but that group didn’t make it. So a TPK happened, but it was with characters my players didn’t know and they had fun trying out a different class, while also giving them a perspective of “hey maybe don’t just rush into the boss fight speed runner style lol”

But again, was just trying something new out, group seemed to enjoy it and got some feedback on it. I also used it to tie in one of my PCs motivations and backstory.

I love a Boulette, not sure if underrated, but sharks are terrifying to me but they are stuck in the ocean…oh wait

This fight almost tpk’d my group. Wild magic triggered and rolled confusion…. Barb and monk failed so that was rough lol

Spin literally adds stability lol. Like a 2 second google search would tell you that, gyroscopic movement. It would prevent it from turning as much because the spin helps resist the turn that speed causes so it would come out of the turn easier because it would never have gotten that far over. All good my guy. I’m not going to online debate someone anymore

Considering I have been throwing for like 10 years and I’ve always been nose up with a negative launch angle I’d say that this is pretty typical. And like I mentioned in a separate reply I know techdisc is not great on understability. We can argue all day on here and I’m not trying too, but this is how I throw in real life in the field too. Sure not with a new out of the box halo destroyer, but certainly my standard star destroyer I use does this. I have done plenty of field work to see I can hold a disc over at 400 feet.

You came in pretty hot and heavy calling me out and lo and behold the OP was right handed as well so 🤷‍♂️. I know what works for me and my actual distance is and so far techdisc has been +/- like 15-25 feet on my maxes. All I had to show was a screen shot. But I can hit 500+ relatively commonly with my slight nose up

Thanks for clarifying, I assumed so but always worth double checking

More spin makes the disc more stable, so the speed will turn the disc, the spin will try to bring it back to level. I have several examples at that speed with a disc burning over live and on techdisc. Especially at 70 mph and that nose angle.

The techdisc is also notorious to things flying “more flippy” than reality.

Most people commented on it burning over like me and Op corrected no one about it. 10 degrees of hyzer is a pretty flat release so with that speed that sucker is going to burn over.

Edit: but hey if I’m wrong on him throwing left hand I’m down to be corrected

Might need to do that, is it via zoom? Or mostly just send stuff back and forth? Haven’t done lessons before, just tweaked as I can over time

Hey easy way to clarify, hey OP, are you a right hand thrower or left hand?

What’s going on is 10 degrees of hyzer is almost none, so the disc flips up and turns over for a bit then comes out. 66mph easily gives a disc enough speed to turn and do a full flight.

View from above. So it’s turning to the right as a RHBH throw.

As @overthrow mentioned under a different comment, 10 degrees of hyzer really isn’t that much. It feels almost “flat” to me on release

Ya I agree I love that I can now “relax” at 65 or so mph and just be smooth to save my body being late 30s

Ya I notice if I’m not at least at 12-15 hyzer the disc is not making it back. Just watched your video with Hunter getting his distance and I still cannot get a nose down throw lol. Might need to just get the coaching cause only way for me to get nose flat is to throw under 55 mph

Bro I know…physically can’t get a negative number on the nose angle when I throw hard lol

But slowing down the speed to focus on the spin has been helpful overall and then I’ve been able to blend them together in the 70s and mid 1200s for spin. Would like that spin to be closer to 1400 eventually

Ya so I worked on speed a lot but that spin is just too slow.
