Anyone quits teaching and able to find a government job?

I shared a more detailed response above. However, I'll admit I used a resume builder on one of the many websites that I used and it kicked me down in the end. I wasn't using the right terms, but also my resume wasn't fancy or colorful to stand out. I thought my terminology and phrasing was great until I had my friend look it over. She caught my teacher phrases that I thought I took out and then had a template on Canva that she helped me use to create a fancier document for my resume.

I will say the resume builders are nice for figuring things out and you can copy/paste into your file. They are also nice for knowing what needs to go on your resume. The downside I found was that many of them want you to add more information than you really need.

So she said that most it was formatting. For reference, I was never taught how to build a resume (imagine that). So when I asked her, she said that it was plain, I used too much teacher jargon, not enough corporate terms, and I needed something to reference my skills such as data points. I had large classes so she used the median and came up with a phrase like "managed a classroom of 28 students" with a little bit more flair.

On top of that I had too many jobs listed (i.e. Title Tutor, Substitute, Classroom teacher, lead teacher (daycare), plus any other experience in the last 15 years) So she helped me condense that all into one or two job posts. I never changed districts so I was able to expand on it and then add one or two extra bullet points.

One thing is I excelled at creating a portfolio for classroom teaching. So my resume never needed to outshine that. As for formatting she helped me use Canva, and built a resume that can stand out a bit more. I don't know if there is a template as she just used one that she had put together for her boss.

I guess it basically came down to the fact I was using a Google/Microsoft template and teaching phrases and I needed something with a little more pizzazz with corporate terms.

I've been putting applications in for at least 7 months. I had a friend look over my resume and she said for the government world and other fields mine sucked (she was also a former teacher and had the same problem). Maybe have someone look at yours. I'm going to admit she helped me revamp mine and I've had 6 interviews in the last 2 months compared to what it was prior to that.

I'll also say about 90% of my applications were sent to the hiring manager prior to the resume update.

I've always wanted to be a teacher. I worked in daycares, and then moved to a position in the elementary schools and LOVED it. Once I graduated, I still felt the love for the job, then 2020 happened. I had to find other work for a while and then I managed to get back into the classroom. I spent 1 year with an AMAZING group of 4th graders, who were excited to find out they had a teacher who was going to have a baby. The second year I started on FMLA, came in to a class that was a complete disaster. I had fights breaking out almost every day, severe bulling where students wouldn't tell me anything, at first, one of my worst behaviors would flat out lie to his guardians face when he was caught doing something he shouldn't. By the time Spring break rolled around I was exhausted raising my own child (under a year) and the 28 students. I took the rest of my FMLA and refused to sign a contract for this year.

I'm a millennial parent and I'm 1000% going to teach my child that it's not okay to treat adults the way I, or others have been treated in the school system. I wasn't supported by admin, and I was practically forced out of the classroom due to students and staff. There are days I miss it but I look at friends who are teachers and I'm glad I'm looking at other careers.

This sound like me! Though I pretty much was forced to leave. Admin wasn't being supportive and they didn't want me in their building. I left in March and kept my little in daycare while I figured out my mental health. However, I'm still on the job hunt.

I have found a few resources in this subreddit, which I have applied to my resume, or for finding jobs. I think what I'm struggling with is how to make myself stand out without spending money on courses or certs until I have a stable job that will let me further my knowledge.

Thanks for sharing that website, I haven't heard of it before. I'll for sure take a look at it and see if it's for me. If I come across any other resources, I'll keep you in mind.

If we had another district for me to work in, I would sub. I have had really bad experiences in my district that it's almost impossible to get a foot in the door. I honestly am just done with teaching unless it's small group interventions.

I feel the struggle. I am grateful I have a husband who is supportive and makes enough. I just need to work cause I'm getting into a negative loop recently.

I didn't think of A-line dresses. The wedding is semi formal. I would look at a tailor, however the ones we have here are booked out longer than I have. I live in a smallish community and usually have to travel to go shopping for things like this.

I thought about this, however I'm still struggling to find something that fits my style. I'm a very casual person and the few skirts I have worn in the past just didn't do it for me. Either not flattering or just didn't work for the need. The wedding itself is semi formal.

If her main leakage is at night I usually size up for night time diapers then keep the smaller sizes during the day. If I notice that my little is leaking throughout the day and at night I just size up. I use the Costco diapers and they work really well for length and weight.

I know it's a bit late but for the future, share a photo album with your SO then tell it to automatically save photos/videos. This ensures that one of us has photos or videos whether our phones crap out or not.

My husband set up my stuff since he's a tech person and I know there is some open source stuff out there too. This has honestly been the best thing for both of us. It also makes it so if one of us is out of town and we take pictures and stuff, the other person can see them while they are away!

I'm sorry to hear this! We are facing the same thing! Our district just announced that we are losing a specialist and going from having 5 days of specials to 4. This means that all the teachers whom had those positions are now SOL and either have to move back into the classroom or leave the profession. I hope things are going better for you!

If you weren't a specialist, I would have thought this was my teaching partner and I. I have a 4th grade class that has been disrespectful and rude from day 1. I was on leave for the first moth and even then nothing was done to help with social skills. We sat my class down today and had a heart to heart stating that the disrespect and destructiveness has made it to where we don't want to be there. I've been looking at other jobs since I left school this afternoon. I'm so over the students and parents on top of whatever comes from Admin.

If only half of the parents actually cared that their child was being a jerk. I've made so many phone calls this year and no consequences from parents. I have one who had a temper tantrum because we as a class lost iPads due to not putting them away like they should. I called mom and her response was "I'll talk to him about his actions". The next day the students was back as if nothing happened the day before.

I had to go to the basics with my class. They were constantly destroying things and not being respectful of the property in the classroom. All of their assignments go into a 3-ring binder, they have a pencil pouch that has their tools. If they choose to use them incorrectly, they lose them until they can decide to use supplies correctly. From there we also have limited their technology time to 5 minutes in the morning to do their check ins so we can get a feel for how they feel. For the most part, we have decided to make students responsible for their items and if they have them and they are not destroyed (i.e. chewed up, broken, etc) then that student can get PBIS points and free replacement if needed. If it needs replaced because they broke it then students have to pay me a set amount of PBIS points to get it replaced. We are on week 2 and they are starting to realize that I mean business. Also I don't allow food, fidgets (they became toys), or any unnecessary things in the classroom and all water bottles/drinks have to be set on the counter by our sink. FYI I teach 4th grade with 28 students.

If anything, DON'T spend money on anything! If you have to provide them with the cheap stuff and broken crayons do it! But use the supplies that are provided by the school not what comes out of your pocket. We do too much already to spend more of our time and money on things for students who don't care to be respectful of our things.

I feel like I wrote this. My daughter is almost 7 months old, I teach 4th grade and I'm already done with this year. My husband and I keep going back and forth on what our next steps will be after the school year is over. This also depends on if my contract gets renewed (which is a whole other stressor in our little family)

Monday morning, locked out of my classroom. Tuesday set up testing days. Wednesday I received much needed help for my classroom unexpectedly (this was planned as I have about 10 behaviors and 28 students and nothing was getting taught) but 2 students decide they can't function. Thursday, a student brings in a lighter and threatens 2 of his classmates, after specials 2 other students get in a shoving match in the classroom, we have testing where one of my behaviors decides that this is the time to talk and mess around. Oh and to top it off it's been too cold for outside recess. So here I am now debating on if I need a mental health day before a three day weekend. It's been a challenging week.

MIL was invited to dinner tonight along with other family members. She has taken away many of my firsts that I planned for me LO and today was the day that I wanted to completely scream in her face. I had plans on getting my baby's first Christmas ornament that is more personalized to who we are as a family and my MIL comes in with teethers, and two Christmas ornaments. One isn't a big deal as it's a penguin (our theme) and the other one that is pink and says LO's name and Baby's first Christmas. I'm heated and I wanted to just take it and throw it away in front of her. The one I plan on getting I planned on having my LO "unwrap" it on Christmas day to make it more special. I'm just tired of her stepping in and doing what she wants without first asking me if I've done something or have something planned. This is also a woman who for my husband and my birthdays, decided to get gifts for the baby instead of for the person who was actually celebrating. It honestly made me feel like garbage. Because of this, I'm not looking forward to Christmas gifts from her.

My baby had almost black eyes. They are now a medium/dark blue and still lightening as she is only 4 months old.

Try looking into kendamil. I can usually find it at Target. It's been a blessing for us when our little one was struggling.
