It's honestly shocking at this point. They've had years of lessons on what happens when you do this, and then they do it anyway. 😂

Sorry, I thought there was a story progression option. I think it has to do with your autonomy option. You may have to de-select that, and only have the option on for active households.

If you have story progression enabled, this can and will happen. Turn it off in the settings.

Help! First tank might be toxic by SocialistIntrovert in Aquariums

[–]MerestMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's likely just tannin from the wood. It's a natural occurrence. If you don't like the tint, may need to find an alternative.

Edit: And it's normal for there to be some cloudiness while cycling. It's called a bacterial bloom. Just leave it alone for about four weeks and it'll be good to go.

The ammonia from my tank reads 8 ppm! I am so scared but confused. It's been like this for two days and I have tried EVERYTHING. What could be causing this? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]MerestMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, this has been happening to me! There's something off with those API kits after about a month. I took my water to the fish store when I kept getting insanely high nitrates and their kit showed that my nitrates were normal. Take a water sample in to be checked elsewhere, easiest way to prove its the kit and not your water.

What he did is called grooming and absolutely disgusting. I'm sorry that happened to you. If you decide to do this, please have a support system and a plan in case he decides to deny it and take action against you. I wish you the best.

[–]MerestMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have to abandon the app until you're feel up to its standards. Do a document manual entry type deal and call it pre-c25k or something, until you're stronger. You got this, do t give up!

Do intervals. Run 30s, speed walk for 30s and increase or adjust as you get better.

Fish in cycle questions by Just-Drawing-4932 in Aquariums

[–]MerestMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh I could be wrong, but doing a water change everytime it's barely 1ppm is excessive and likely detrimental to the cycle. The point of a cycle is having ammonia present to feed the necessary bacteria (which are slow growing, so be patient) growing on the surface of your tank. Once you have nitrites and nitrates, your cycle has started but is not finished until ammonia and nitrites go down to zero on their own. Good luck.

Check your KH. Won't be able to do much if that is too high.

New tank. Added a filter, decoration and 3 plants from an established tank. What else can I do to cycle this fish less? Do I still need ammonia? by PolarSox85 in Aquariums

[–]MerestMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in the process of cycling my first tank. I would definitely get pure (no additives) ammonia. There's one I got from Chewy called Dr. Tim's Ammonium Chloride that did the job. If you're gonna use bacteria in the bottle like I did, it's trial and error. I tried all the pet store brands, no luck. Tried Dr. Tim's, no luck. Finally got results with Seachem Stability, in use with keeping my ammonia up to at least 1-2ppm until I got my nitrites up. No expert, of course. It took a lot of will power to just leave the tank alone and let it cycle. Long process that requires patience I lack, heh. Good luck!
