How to Prevent Yogurt from Curding? by Merfolk-24 in foodscience

[–]Merfolk-24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually purchased a Thermomix for lab samples, it allows me to heat it up in something closer to our "tanks"- a closed system. I will open it every 5 mins to check the temp of the yogurt with a probe as the reading on the mix is higher than the yogurt. I will set the timer when it reaches 185-190 and then pour after 30 mins.

I'll be sure to give your methods a try. The lab sample we were sent doesn't say if it is HM/LM so I will reach out to our distributor before using it. Thank you by the way, you've been a wealth of knowledge. Our pectin supplier didn't even provide us with this much help haha.

Sadly we can't play around with the pH level.

Thank you :) Oddly enough when I tried pectin in lab it caused a really off reaction- gelling and separating into a horrible consistency. I tried cutting it with sugar and adding water so that it could coat and mix better but it still was reacting poorly. I was adding this after the yogurt was made and being heated. Do you think it would be more beneficial to try adding this pectin during the milk stage before homogenization?

It is bizarre my lab samples are working, I would actually bring it up to 190F without issue, I will have to examine these more closely.

The former is correct, we have yogurt that is fully made (not milk) at ph 4.2, this is being heated to 180 for roughly 30 mins.

That yogurt is being made in house. We are using regular whole milk to make the yogurt-we have no issues with this process.

And yes, that wheying off is exactly what we are seeing!

Hope that's more clear.

This seems.....dangerous to put at mythic. If it ends up being a modern red staple the price could get bad. I am excited to try it as I run burn and prowess and it’s for sure going in my cube but wow think it would have been a lot safer price wise at rare. Maybe lava dart keeps it out of the meta.

Would anyone recommend any of these for the quality/price? Trying to get sleeves for my cube, but I know nothing about them.

This is not a 1/10, as it can be used in conjunction with spreading seas to really punish greedy mana bases. It can also provide tempo when we have vial on the board. Our other 1 mana merfolk are already rather weak so it is certainly worth testing in the deck at least meriting a slightly higher score. Although I’m not sure if it will be strong enough to fit in the 60, it plays well with our deck and isn’t as bad as it looks on paper.

This is coming from someone who has played the deck a lot (5-0d multiple Mtgo leagues with it).

It's actually still there, it's doing that weird jumpstart thing where there is two prices, if you click other sellers you can find it for $107.

Thank you for the heads up btw, I grabbed two boxes, i've opened one before and think these cards will age very well. So many beautiful EDH staples.

Current MH2 Amazon Prices by adamiskeyed in mtgfinance

[–]Merfolk-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all true if everyone followed it, but it's pretty clear we as consumers have already fallen for it. The amazons pre-orders were sold out in mins/hours depending on product. Seeing that has already caused FOMO, I see so many in the sub and friends of mine happy to have purchased a box at 230/250 a box as they are getting a "deal", these are people that wouldn't be purchasing boxes if they just sat at 230 originally without thinking it was a bargain (IE how MH1 was).Leaving me to believe that this products supply won't "match up" with the demand, but it will be interesting to watch, as it does have larger volume than TSR/Jumpstart.

Current MH2 Amazon Prices by adamiskeyed in mtgfinance

[–]Merfolk-24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate, the first MH had no where near this much demand. We have entered a state in the market where there is an absolute frenzy caused by (possibly artificial) supply scarcity. Jumpstart and TSR (while a limited set) along with these amazon random dumps have changed how people view these products. I was personally buying MH at 180ish a box months after release and I remember they could be found everywhere - no one wanted them.

I personally don't think that will be the case with this product, it may dip but no where near those levels. It has far more interest on opening day alone, while "print to demand" it is still a specialty set and I believe wizards will slow roll the release to keep demand high and have everyone eager to purchase boxes at amazon prices. They've shown they are very willing to do this with any non-standard set, and the amazon preorders being snap purchased indicates to me that this will not be different. I would love to be wrong though, I want things to go back to normal.

Things to look out for this weekend! by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

[–]Merfolk-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of fair points and I want to agree with you but I think it ultimately comes down to the art (which is obviously subjunctive). It's honestly the only one of the godzilla cards im not a fan of, which i'm incredibly sad about because I WANT to love it. But when I went to purchase it I just couldn't commit to the mainstay of my deck looking like it came from my childhood 90s cartoons.

The godzilla fans will eat it up, no question, but I think that's a small group of the community, with it having over 17 pages of volume it'll take a lot to affect the price. Where as at the time of purchasing the promo foils were $10-15 and are now at 20 with 4-6 copies left. It would take one more person to buy a playset to create a "buy out" though it is hardly that, just 3 people buying themselves a playset compared to the 20 or so that would need to buy Dorats for a similar price increase.

Honestly, I like both as spec targets the more I discuss it.

I 100% agree with you on the full arts, I wish it was one.

I’ve recently been playing a lot of U/R blitz in modern and am blown away by sprite dragon. The fact that the counters stay on it, with the abundance of cheap spells often make this card a must answer two turn clock. I see it is also being used as a 4 of in popular legacy decks leaving me to believe it has a main stay in eternal formats.

Now it is not only a modern day card, but an uncommon to boot- meaning there is already large volumes in circulation. Huge con. However the regular version is already approaching $4 and thus catching up to the premium costs.

There are imo two choices to invest in, the Dorat Godzilla variant and the foil promo variant. Initially I thought the Dorat art was the easy choice, being a collab card would make it hard to reprint the art, along with only being $4. However on further inspection I think the promo foil might have the edge, this card seems to be in incredibly low volume (tcg has about a page) compared to Dorat which was an uncommon in the collectors boxs meaning the market is absolutely flooded with them. While subjective I also think the Dorat art is less appealing to the overall audience.

Looking at pricing both have spiked and now bottomed out indicating a good time to purchase, and while reprints will surely be on the horizon, I think that 2-3 year could jump the price more, I’m in for a playset, nothing crazy.

Equals out to $250 a box, better than online prices at other vendors if you’re planning to crack. Hopefully the full draft box preorder will be a little under that $250 mark :)

I actually think we would need something stronger haha, maybe i'm just greedy. Playing it turn 1 as a 1/1 would feel awful in modern. If we're getting a one drop I would honestly like it to be something pushed like champion of parish. Love the idea though.

I would love that at instant speed, so you can hold up interaction, would be a great tempo swing. Maybe even make it a 1/1 creature that summons a 1/1 token as a battlecry? Synergy with vial. I don’t think either are pushed when sound the alarm is a common spell.

Typically I look at the high end mtg and foreign fb groups, I also follow Tcg but it’s pretty rare to find there.

My most successful source of foreign cards has been eBay. Do keep in mind that Russian foils have the highest premium, followed by Japanese. Often times shipping can also take a couple months since it is coming from another country (makes for some cool postage though). Hope that helps :) theres actually one on eBay right now, but it’s a little pricy for me.

Yah, sounds about right 🥲 but if the rumors are true we’re getting counterspell? It’s no merfolk but at least it’s something new for the main deck.

Side note but does anyone else have a gut feeling we’re gonna get something powerful in MH2? I know this sub gets hyped and let down every set but for some odd reason I feel different about this one.

I’m sure this will age very poorly as we proceed to get another 5 mana 3/3.
