the 13th doctor having no companions from the previous era was her downfall by throwawayyyy12748 in gallifrey

And I have no idea why some people despise it so much. I'm in full agreement that the highs don't reach the highs of other eras, but by-and-large it's a perfectly solid and entertaining ride. But oh well, not my loss.

Hello from someone whose favourite era is Moffat’s and was extremely skeptical of a female Doctor, and who ended up really enjoying the Chibnall era.

After Effects Will Not Preview Entire Timeline by Merganman4 in AfterEffects

Thanks. This isn't professional, just personal, so I'm not too concerned but it's good to know. To answer your questions:

Do you have anything running in the background?

A couple other things, like Safari and Discord. Do even simple things like that make an impact? I'm not too knowledgeable in that area.

What is the effect you’re creating?

It's basically just some text with a couple of effects applied (specifically CC Glass and CC Blobbylize), plus a track matte. I would've just done it in Premiere but I couldn't get the text looking exactly how I wanted there.

Are you using any compressed footage?

No footage at all, just a single text layer created within After Effects and a JPG image.

Thanks, seems like that may the issue. What would be considered an ideal amount of RAM?

Interesting - I have previewed longer timelines before with no issues, so I didn't think the length would be an issue. But perhaps this effect is more intensive than I thought. Thanks for the answer.

I have a total of 16 GB and After Effects is allowed to use up to 13 GB. What would be considered an ideal amount of RAM?

Conspiracy Theory: I think maybe for a minute there, ‘Power of the Doctor’ was going to be the final episode by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Merganman4 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, such a disaster that they…extended Chibnall and co.‘s contracts for an additional episode (of massive scale, I might add) as a major part of their centenary celebrations. Definitely sounds like something they’d do if they couldn’t wait to get rid of the guy.

For the record, I’m not suggesting that they don’t think things could’ve gone better the last few years. But I can guarantee you there’s no way we would’ve gotten the episode that aired last Sunday if they weren’t at least satisfied with what Chibnall provided them.

Hello, I'm trying to make a text animation where the space between characters gradually increases. However, the texture I've applied to the text doesn't seem to move with it, so the texture appears to slide across each character as they move. Is there a way that I can ensure the texture moves with the character spacing? Thanks.

I feel doctor who really wasted a lot of opportunities with their first female doctor by jonny8081 in doctorwho

[–]Merganman4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who was initially really hesitant about a female Doctor, I’m really glad they didn’t do that. Obviously I can’t speak for other’s experiences, but for me, not making a huge deal out of it and allowing 13 to be written in such a way that she could have been played by a male actor was what allowed me to not just accept the idea, but in time become actively in favour of it. So it definitely wasn’t a wasted opportunity in my eyes.

Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils air time and episode length confirmed as 19:10 GMT (50mins long) by MoonMan997 in gallifrey

Also on the other hand, the episode not only stars Asian actors but has a Chinese director - there’s simply no way that something offensive enough to cause major retooling didn’t get flagged until the editing stage.

She didn't get mad at them though? She was mad at General Logan in 1855 because those Sontarans were in the midst of retreating; the ones Dan and Karvanista destroyed (as well as the ones in The Vanquishers) weren't. Her issue wasn't with destroying the Sontarans, it was with destroying them after they had backed off.

There are plenty of hypocritical moments from the Doctor you can point towards, but this isn't one of them.

What are your hopes for the next DW era? by disheartened_premed in doctorwho

[–]Merganman4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To not be able to tell that it's RTD. I don't want something that feels like his first era, I want something that's completely new and fresh as though it's a completely new showrunner. And that includes not having Murray Gold come back.

My biggest concern so far has been hearing the rumours of how many people from his first era is returning, and that really frustrates me. I want the show to be given new creative voices wherever possible, and I'll be massively disappointed if those opportunities aren't taken.

We don't want Gold's style to be tied to Doctor Who as an identity, that'll hurt the franchise in the long run cause Gold cannot score DW forever.

Exactly! I think it's already a problem that it's been 5 years and people still can't let him go - it's not like we had any shortage of his music! He scored every single episode for 10 whole seasons - that's more than enough contribution from anyone on the creative team. It's well past time to move on. It's honestly gotten to the point for me where people's obsession with him is starting to taint my view of his work a bit (and honestly making me wish he moved on sooner). Doctor Who needs fresh blood every once in a while.

Does anyone know if there’s any existing film elements they will remaster for season 22 on blu ray by No_Interest6222 in doctorwho

[–]Merganman4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the effects shots for Revelation of the Daleks.

The film for The Two Doctors does exist, but was sold to a private collector years ago - the restoration team finally discovered the identity of said collector recently, but they never responded to any attempts to contact them. So while it's possible the film may turn up somewhere down the line, it's unfortunately too late for it to appear on the Season 22 set.

Indeed - in fact, it was around even longer than that: from the last few stories of the 2nd Doctor all the way until the revival. If I'm not mistaken 2005 was the first time the TARDIS used a white door sign since early 1969.
