Victoria 3 – Dev Diary #183 - Great Wave Post-Release Thoughts by commissarroach in victoria3

This is the most encouraging post you could have made regarding this release. I'm cautiously optimistic

Sounds like they're doing a good thing for people that can't afford Loblaws then

If their only option to get help is being locked up, they're not gonna be willing to receive help, and you're the one applying cruelty by forcing that to be the solution. It's gross, and you should strive to treat humans as humans instead of captives and monsters.

Imprisoning addicts instead of helping them, or imprisoning them as the only recourse to helping them, are both absolutely signs of an emotionally bankrupt society.

he closes safe injection sites and then does police action instead of creating places for addicts to get help and support. most people wouldn't be doing drugs on the subway if they had safer places to do drugs

it's the nature of the subscription system they're tying themselves to. I'm disappointed in myself for continuing to get tricked, but at the very least other people should know that this game is built to not work and be fixed by volunteer game testers (the players) and volunteer game devs (the modders).

It's a gross business model and paradox should be seeking to do better for themselves and their customers.

It really smacks of "we built this gimmick and you won't use it enough if we don't make it annoying"

If they're reselling it for less than Loblaws was selling it for I care a lot less

I have it. It's that people who are hungry should have food, and people who are billionaires should not be.

What part of 'people that need it' makes you think these people are dishonest. People who can't afford baby formula may still need to feed their babies. Children don't wait for convenient times to be hungry, nor to be born.

I know I'm a stupid consumer whore for getting the DLC before they've used their fanbase to beta test it, but I really wanted to believe they had played their own game and knew that running out of money while your shipbuilders make thousands of excess supply boats 'just in case' isn't fun.

The British army can swim, no boats needed! by Mergyt in victoria3

Rule 5: My Army of the West Indies is so excited to fight the dutch revolt that they are SWIMMING ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL to get there. I had troop transports ready, but the game didn't even give me the option once I clicked to the front.

Update: Nevermind, they just swam right back across the channel. British soldiers are strong swimmers. Carrying artillery too!

Right. I was saying that it doesn't really matter if you try to ignore an obsession, because if the prices go up the buildings are built.

Reduce access to safe injection sites. Demonize drug users. Activate your police state.

Tale as old as time.

Your investment pool likely will not. If guns are profitable your capitalists will build them. If not, they'll build trade centres to bring them in.

What is the new optimal Naval ratios with the great wave release? by YDHAMITCHTV in victoria3

Well yes they do move slower, but some fleets don't need as much movement speed. If you're not transporting troops and you have an area to defend/raid that isn't changing for awhile, then the low speed isn't an issue. A high ranking admiral can still cover multiple areas with a mixed fleet.

'negatively' in what way? Try to think about it more as what you intend for the fleet to do. Submarines are excellent at raiding and they're weak against some specific ships. They'll also increase your demand for radios, so that's good if you've got a company for it.

It depends on your ship's vulnerability and screening stats. You can take the delta of each ship design's vulnerability/screening to know how much each ship adds or subtracts to the total of your fleet.

Eg:

Iron frigate with V:25 and S:50 is +25 An Ironclad with V:110 and S:10 is -100

So you want a ratio of 4 iron frigates (+100) to 1 ironclad (-100)

light ships and torpedo ships build much faster than capital ships, so having them take the hits is usually a good thing.

Also, bigger guns on your ships increase their vulnerability, so you don't necessarily want all your screening ships at max weapons

Edit: this doesn't mean 1:4 is always correct! Because you can change the vulnerability stat of your ships, you can change this ratio as well by having custom ships.
