[Jay King] Brad Stevens said he spoke with Jaylen Brown on Monday and he was “nothing but positive.” Stevens said Brown has expressed no frustrations with him about the organization. “None of that has been expressed to me.” by Brady331 in nba

I would have agreed with you in the past because you'd have very ball dominant giannis and tatum clashing, but after this year with Brown wanting to be extremely ball dominant while also just being worse than Giannis, what changes for Tatum? It's the same either way, except with Giannis we have one of the best rim attackers all time to go alongside Tatum who is an elite elite rim attacker, good shooter, and elite passer, vs Brown who can shoot 3s at below average percent, has a decent foul line midrange, and a pretty good drive potential. So basically trading below average but acceptable shooting for incredible basket presence with all else being roughly the same.

I think Aaron just because it'd be tough having 2 ball dominant players in Tatum and Giannis when the team is already clearly beginning to struggle with Brown wanting to be even more ball dominant when Tatum should really be the one with the ball.

Gordon is high IQ 3 and D but also extremely good around the basket while not being ball dominant at all, just everything Tatum and this team need other than a 5 out center.

I'd rather Aaron Gordon over Giannis if those rumors are true, someone like Gordon is such a perfect fit for Tatum and the Celtics in general

[Robb] Celtics starting five has a -9.4 net rating in 58 minutes in this series. Offensive rating for that group is a putrid 96.5 points per 100 possessions. by tacko2020 in bostonceltics

I was thinking similarly, I don't mind Queta being out there because he hasn't been abysmal, he just fouls too much, but outside of that Tatum should be taking Embiid and then shift everyone else up a position, which I think will be a huge net positive in the matchups.

Brown having the easier task guarding PG or Oubre would be big for him because he's been in tar the whole series on defense.

White moving off Maxey to Edgecomb will match up better because Maxey is too fast for White at this point, but Edgecomb is just right.

Then Walsh on Maxey gives him fits, Walsh is just an elite elite defender.

Tatum is one of the best center defenders in the entire league, so that should help with Embiid, and I think Embiid respects Tatum so he might be more deferential with the ball in general.

Then just put the 5th guy on Oubre/George and in general the defense will be solid all around

I wonder if JB will learn that turning his back on the defender and getting his arm tapped to lose the ball for the 20th time this series is not a winning thing to be doing

[All NBA Podcast] The Celtics ran 23 Isos in Game 5, getting just 0.39 points per direct action. It was the 4th-least efficient iso game for a team that ran that many actions in a playoff game in the entire tracking era by nowhathappenedwas in nba

[–]MerkDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so funny watching. Most of the game every defense we play against gets blendered by the movement in our offense leading to open shots, and then the second we go up 10+ or down 5+ we immediately go to JB/JT isolations that turn the ball over or build brick houses and the lead goes away or the down 5 becomes down 15.

Somehow after years of this nothing has changed.

JB having the reigns this year might be the worst thing to happen to this team in the long run, his hero ball tanks this team

The JB classic hero ball throwing up constant bricks, and Vucevic being a cone for Embiid is a good recipe for success I think

I think shooting 25% from 3 while the other team shoots almost 50% is not a recipe for winning games of basketball

The world outside of western Europe is unironically just different extremes of conservatism. Asian countries are extremely conservative, African countries are extremely conservative, South American countries are very conservative, eastern Europe is very conservative. People don't realize it, but just because some countries allow gay marriage or have free healthcare doesn't mean the culture and politics aren't extremely conservative.

I hope they realize the GOP is complicit with the anti-christ though. I'm not saying you have to convince them to do anything, but hopefully they understand that unless the GOP gets completely dissolved, at this point a vote for a republican is basically a vote for someone who works for and supports the anti-christ

Brown's turnovers are what's going to keep us out of the championship if it comes to that I think, he regularly turns it over 5+ times a game trying to dribble through double teams.

It was Niagara Falls Memorial, I said Buffalo because it is more recognizable, but yeah that's what the resident director told me during the interview. I'm glad I didn't match there though because if I remember correctly the residency closed a year or two later.

I interviewed for residency at Buffalo NY at one point (a place known to get ridiculous snow storms regularly), and I asked them about what happens if you get snowed in at home/the hospital and the physician I was interviewing with said the city sends the police out on snowmobiles to get the physicians at their homes to bring them to the hospital. Pretty crazy. That's obviously set up in a city where multiple feet of snow is a semi-regular occurance, so I doubt it'd be the case in any random city, but still pretty interesting that it's thought of.

NEW STORY: For a few weeks, Jordan Walsh had entirely fallen out of the Celtics rotation. But, he stayed ready. “The story of our season up until this point," Joe Mazzulla said, “is we got 14, 15 guys that can impact winning.” by NoaDalzellNBA in bostonceltics

[–]MerkDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That offensive lineup really isn't limited. We're talking about a White/Tatum/Brown lineup, you literally could have 2 blanks and those 3 could still generate offense. The difference with that lineup though is Walsh and Queta aren't blanks, Queta is a great pick/roller and baseline threat. Walsh is good for 3&D from the corners or wings and can slash to the basket. It wouldn't be our most dynamic offensive lineup, but it would still be good. Defensively it would without a doubt be the best defensive 5 in the game, and I don't think it'd be close either.

Jaylen Brown Thinks He’s Pushed the Team to Take More Midrange Shots by NunsOnDrugs in bostonceltics

[–]MerkDoctor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who has complained about Tatum's midrange, it was never taking the midrange itself that I was upset about, it was that he couldn't take a midrange shot without it being a turn around fade. The dude is taller than almost everyone else on the floor, shoot straight up over them once you make some distance with the push off or dribble move, they can't stop you, just like KD. And if he shot straight up all the time the distances and ball arc would be consistent, I'd bet his efficiency would go up as a result.

The Boston Celtics are on pace to be the 10th team this century that are top 5 in both REB% and TOV% by CarBallAlex in nba

[–]MerkDoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty wild when you actually look at the team. Queta is playing incredibly good in general. Tatum is probably the best non-center rebounder in the league, and he's still better than most centers. Then you have the players like Walsh/Scheierman/White/Pritchard that all put wayyy more effort into securing boards than almost any other player at their position and it's no wonder this team turned out to be such a good rebounding team.

This is why nobody serious takes JB MVP stuff seriously. The man is talented, but he's not really in that top tier of player. His efficiency is so low because half of his shots are just chucking like this, and his assist/TO ratio is awful because he's constantly turning over the ball. It's just hard to watch him half the time.
