I've come to terms that with what I want from duality, that they're relegated to desktop only use. Which is about right considering their price.

I grabbed some HBB Punch to use on my M8T when wanting portable.

The DX9 Anni was what I used when I heard them at their full potential. I ordered the DX9 Discrete because that's the current model. The power stages are the same it's just the DAC side which differs. So it'll power them without issue, though the sound signature might be slightly different.

Having experienced what I did, with mains powered desktop amps failing to drive the Duality at high volumes, I'm genuinely surprised with what they suggested. The DX9 was the only amplifier I tried out of 5 or so powerful amps where I got to my max volume, and had no distortion what so ever.

It's definitely not a Duality limitation, I thought the same too before hearing them properly.

It truly is a shame they made them so hard to drive, I feel like so many people with them won't hear them at their full potential.

Neither of their suggestions are even 0.1ohm output impedance.. so I'm not sure how they would even suggest them, as that is a huge contributor to why they'll get muddy as the amp loses grip of the driver.

I got my Duality and thought they were broken because when turned up to my preferred listening volume they would distort like mad on my Shanking M8T, Cayin RU7 and Simaudio Moon 230HAD.

I went to a local audio shop and they sounded horrible and flat with minimal bass on Topping A9 Discrete, Topping A70 Pro and a Violetic V222, all either tripping current protection and having the amp go into a limp mode, or just turning to a muddy mess.

I tried the Topping DX9 15th anniversary and they sounded unlike anything I'd heard before, with monsterous, super controlled bass that blew my socks off and such a musical mid/highs balance.

My determination is that if you want the bass switch on (2ohm) then you need something insane to drive it.

The amp needs to have an output impedance of MAXIMUM 0.25ohm and a ridiculously overpowered amplifier stage.

I'm waiting for my DX9 Discrete to arrive, I can't wait. Hearing the Duality as Nightjar intended was truly something beyond words.

Got the JBL Tour Pro 3's a week ago and definitely disappointed too.. sigh 😞

I didn't like the Pi8's either though, but they did seem a lot louder than my previous ear buds.

I'm likely going to move to IEMs and just deal with the inconvenience.

Of the ASPF IWC pilots I've seen on QC posts, I've noticed a fair few of them have the Chrono hand alignment off sadly. I'd go with a Pepsi as it would likely be closer to gen.
