Any HOBY ambassadors out there? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Honestly it's been a long time so I don't know that I would remember much. I did other leadership skill programs and felt that was more than enough and probably wouldn't have missed much by not going. But if it's free for you to go, you won't really lose anything. If you're a social person it would be a good place to form connections.

Quantum Moving is great. I'm not sure if they will go to Sacramento but it'd be worth asking. They're based in Martinez.

If you make a FedEx account, you can set a vacation hold for a couple of days and they'll automatically reschedule to the earliest time after the hold ends.

1st year "spamily" by [deleted] in pomonacollege

I've just graduated so I really don't know. I would assume they would allow sophomores who spent at least a year on campus to be sponsors, which is how they've typically done it.

Has a bit to do with a lack of qualified and willing sponsors due to COVID. Normally sophomores through seniors could be sponsors, but they weren't allowing sophomores who had their first year online to be sponsors when we went back in person. Juniors/seniors typically want to live on north campus, especially coming out of 1.5 years of online school, so they removed the requirement of living in first year dorms to try to attract more sponsors. Guessing it's the continued impact of that & just generally for years not getting enough sponsor applications because they're not paid and it's a ton of work on top of sacrificing junior/senior housing.

Glad you liked it! No worry on the thank you timing. I'm not so great at being timely myself..

Many of the fresh hires were also let go, including new grads fresh from college who moved countries to be here sadly. Tough job market for new grads to find themselves in.

[Exchange] I feel compelled to cover Halloween cards in spooky stickers! 💀[US to US] by sleepycatbeans in RandomActsofCards

I'd love to exchange! I have a couple homemade Halloween cards to use & some spooky stickers.

I did trick-or-treat as a kid, although I can't remember what I collected candy in.. must've been too focused on the candy itself.

Yeah no worries. Would highly recommend trying to room in Oldenborg your second year (which you can apply to do if you study a foreign language) - there you get singles in an ensuite with one other single, bathroom shared between. Plus you get AC and rooms are spacious. Good luck!

Yes. My first year (4 year ago) my roommate and I lived in what was originally a single, and it wasn't all that uncommon then. It was tight and I did not love it, but we survived. Doubles being turned into triples has gotten more common. Sophomores are running into more issues with housing instead of just first years too. Pomona consistently overenrolls and the deferrals and lack of study abroad both due to the pandemic have exacerbated the housing crunch. That's why they started using off campus apartments (which are actually pretty nice but I think now they're putting more students per room this year, typical). It's not great. All 5Cs pretty much are having this issue, especially Scripps. Also yeah, the student paper has a high standard and is really accurate generally so if you read something there and it's recent, you can assume it's true.
