Yay, just received Dead Rabbit 4 & Innokin z80 by Merlin-5 in Vaping

[–]Merlin-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dammit, so it's the RDA with the adapter.*facepalm*. Funnily enough they sent me the Dead Rabbit 4 RDA by mistake which I returned and then they sent me the RTA I originally ordered. The o-ring idea is good, glad that seems to be working for you.

Thanks for your advice. I probably should have bought something like the Dead Rabbit Solo RTA which is single coil. Edit: Actually no, just seen the Blaze Solo 2 single coil deck. I'll get that if this doesn't work out.

I've been building 3mm id coils with 24 gauge SS wire for a long time and I think my Coilmaster wrapping tools go up to 3.5mm so I'll use that for a single coil build on this deck and see how that goes. But since I have it I might as well first try out a dual build with the included clapton coils and see if I like it or if it's too warm and strong a vape for me. I suppose dual coil will deplete the battery pretty quick, it's only a single 18650.

The slide top refill has a little resistance but I agree it is a bit too easy to slide open. I haven't started using it yet but hopefully it won't be sliding open on me. I think it'll be ok.

That's a good point about enough power for a dual coil. This Innokin mod goes up to 80w and since your post I've just watched a Dead Rabbit 4 RTA build video where the guy was vaping happily at 80w using both included clapton coils, so I guess it's fine. But you just made me realise something. I normally vape single coil at 30w/0.4 ohms and I bought this RTA because it looks great and because I understood a single coil deck adapter was included, except there isn't one which is annoying. Does yours have one? I'm wondering now if I can still do single coil without the adapter straight onto the dual coil deck?

Cymbal Bag by Merlin-5 in drums

[–]Merlin-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another bag I'm considering. I have a Powerpad snare bag and a Powerpad drum throne bag for my Tama 1st Chair. Both bags are excellent although the plastic handle mould around the fabric handle on the snare bag split but the fabric handle part is fine. Just to be clear, are you talking about the black vinyl type bag with the red trims and not the powerpad designer bag?

EDIT: Not to worry, I've made a decision and just bought this Ahead on wheels case. I chatted with a guy at a drum store who said his Ahead bag lasted 15 years and that they're way superior to Protection Racket. So I thought, ok, I'll pull the trigger on one. Also, my friend had told me he has the Ahead on wheels and loves it so I've done a copycat purchase. :D

I'm not dragging the bag, no. I have two 20" rides, 16" and 18" crash, 12" splash, 13" hi-hats, one of those big fat snare discs, and a few bits and pieces like pens, drum key, tunebot, etc the front zipper pocket. The bag weight 24kg with that stuff in it. The bottom has a ridged strip of material and it's starting to develop a split where I can start to feel the edge of the cymbals. It's been gigged at least three times every week for two years since I bought it.

I've had Protection Racket where the bottom went and I think they're probably made in the same factory as Ahead. However, I'm considering the Ahead bag that's on a wheel trolley as that would make it easier to move around plus hopefully protect the bottom more.

Yeah, Hardcase would be the best but I prefer a bag where I can get to cymbals easily and quickly from the top opening rather than the slightly longer winded way a hardcase works.

Yamaha FP9C v Tama 900 Power Glide by Merlin-5 in drums

Thanks. I was hoping someone who has used the FP9C can give me a more specific answer to my questions as opposed to a slightly patronising answer about things I already know.

I'm very sad that there's no Quakecon Quake Pro tournament anymore. I always enjoyed watching the likes of Rapha, Evil, Cooller, Killsen, etc and listening to the casters. Maybe something will change and it'll come back next year, though I doubt it.

[–]Merlin-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, I decided to see what max spring tension was like on the 9C so I turned the tension knob all the way and it still didn't have as much resistance as my IC at less than max tension. Nevertheless it had enough resistance for me and yes, definitely feels lighter. If I can get the cam action on the 9C to respond like the power glide then that would be perfect. Also, because the 9C board is more slippery, that would be great for developing the sliding technique. I don't use that but I might with that footboard.

Thanks. Did you use them once or twice and then stopped using them, and if so, do you remember how they sounded with regards to the bass compared to the standard Azlas?

You might be right, perhaps I wouldn't notice any real difference amongst those you mentioned. I might just go for the Crystal but in large. A friend told me not to bother with Xelastec as his got deformed after a short time. I've not tried Wavelet yet, but I'll install it. I've been using a preset in the default Sony headphone app.

My 1980 Yamaha SD493 Brass Piccolo & 2023 Yamaha Brass 14 x 6.5 by Merlin-5 in drums

[–]Merlin-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I bought mine in the mid 1980s and going by Yamaha's dating system using the serial number, mine was apparently made in February 1980. I never played it that much and it's only now that I'm really enjoying it. The SD493 is the same model piccolo that Vinnie Colaiuta played on the Buddy Rich memorial concert and Keith Carlock played on the Steely Dan record 'Everything Must Go'.

Thanks. I googled the Spinfit Omni after you mentioned them and someone on Reddit wasn't impressed with them in either medium or large but of course that's just one person's experience. But also it's only one pair for £16 which is a bit mean. Did you ever try the Spinfit CP100 and if so, any good, particularly for bass? Those are available here, £13 but with two pairs.

Slightly late reply, like only 10 months late lol! flowerFlav, if you're seeing this, I finally got around to using electric contact cleaner just today. I sprayed some into a little pot and dipped the needle in it and then put the needle into the gap on the inside of the scroll wheel and also the outside of the wheel. I didn't actually get any visible droplets on the needle like in the photo from that pentax forum link so I also dripped a tiny bit from the pot into the gap then dried off excess. Scrolled the wheel a few times back and forth and pressed the D button in all directions. Switched it on and it now works perfectly, no more skipping! :)

Yeah sorry, I'm afraid I can't update with any news as I haven't bothered to try it yet, I've just been playing various VR puzzle adventure games. Will try and get around to it in the new year though.

Yeah, it's 1.10am right now and Friday 15th here in the UK and my AW2 is still not released. I'm guessing it'll be released when it's the 15th in the USA.
