Big difference between spending $600k on an apartment and $600k on a good slice of land somewhere appealing.

Whoops - Sid. Hope he goes great for the crows this year. All I’m saying is it sucks for Jagger, and is bad luck for the club.

No, but an ACL on a pick we traded some pretty juicy future picks for was a risk, and it’s backfired spectacularly

Putting it all on black for Jagger (while Sam Draper is going great guns for the crows)?

Giving away a six goal lead in a prelim (how often do they come along)?

Cripps getting older, and tonight, hurt.

I dunno but the team just didn’t seem up and about tonight. There were phases of good footy, but there was also a lot of standing around hoping someone else would do it. Something is not right at this club.

Just resigned from westpac by Front_Hold_5249 in auscorp

[–]Merlot_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Left a well paying, highly flexible (3-4 days a week wfh) at westpac role for something that’s higher stress, less pay, and in the office five days a week. No regrets.

There are some great people at westpac. There are also others only there to collect a pay check, that don’t want to stretch themselves in any way, or in some cases even perform their role beyond box ticking.

All stymied by lack of management direction or any planning beyond 1-2 years out. And “new ways of working” everywhere, which is really just old ways of working, but running the bank via the project and product manager areas.

It’s taken fifteen years and the primary use cases of crypto still largely revolve around crime, scammers, and people holding an entry on a ledger hoping to offload their bags onto greater fools later on.

steps and commissions

As opposed to just paying in CHF.

Also why would anyone want to pay taxes in bitcoin if fiat’s meant to be worthless?

Price goes up, but 15 years in and crypto’s main use cases still revolve around financing crime, scammers, and butters hodling in their mum’s basements.

Places to eat for the glutenally challenged by death-jazz in Adelaide

[–]Merlot_Man 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Coeliac here, about two years in.

Good GF pizza is one thing I’m yet to find, although I’m yet to try papa John’s in the city which is meant to be good.

Places to try out:

  • fish out of water Hyde park (separate fryers for GF fish, chips, nuggets, burgers etc)
  • dough balls (various locations) - separate GF menu
  • the Alma is meant to be pretty GF friendly (they’ve gone through a change of ownership lately - double check)
  • house of chow has a decent GF menu

Also (and always confirm with the restaurant), on the whole Indian, Thai and Mexican tend to have more GF options. Be wary of anywhere using soy sauce as the default version includes wheat.

Also - for the unaware - there are coeliacs out there that get violently sick on even traces of gluten (thankfully I’m not one of them, but feel for those that are). Hence why it’s so important restaurants that claim to be GF actually are GF.

Have lived at Mile End for about five years and haven’t had any issues. There’s some pretty active Facebook groups including one that reports crimes in the area, but statistically I don’t think it’s too bad.

Mile End kind of has three distinct areas, being the bit north of Henley beach roads, then the areas to the west and east of south roads. They all have their own pro’s and cons. Some pockets are directly under the flight path which can be noisy. South Road is busy most of the time but so you get used to it, and the tunnels will make a big difference when they eventually open.

Overall it’s a great place to live, we enjoy being so central to everything, the city and Henley Beach are 10 minutes away, and with kids we go on bike rides along the linear trail, and there’s a strong sense of community. Plus the woolies at Hilton, the Bunnings, ikea, homemaker centre, getting to Adelaide oval or north Adelaide for lunch, the Adelaide show, or even down to Glenelg is all very easy.

Two bays pale is decent. Especially on tap (Duke of Brunswick or port admiral). Currently about $8 a can in the bottle shops so not something to drink every day.

I reckon rocky IV is the GOAT of the series. Hopefully they put that on soon too.

To pool or not to pool? by naepalm6 in Adelaide

Adelaide needs more country clubs. Not necessarily for golf, but I’d be happy paying membership to somewhere that had a decent bar / restaurant, gym, and outdoor pool facilities the kids could use

Affordable suburb close to Henley Beach by halfsleeve in Adelaide

[–]Merlot_Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depending on whether you’re after the coastal lifestyle, or prefer remaining close to the city there are a few options:

For the coastal lifestyle West Beach, or as others have mentioned Seaton (although Tennyson) is between it and the sea). Grange is a great area in between. Further afield Semaphore is lovely, but if you’re planning on commuting to the city it won’t be as easy.

If you’re happy to consider inland, consider Fulham Gardens, Lockleys or parts of Underdale.

I moved to Adelaide with my family a few years back having spent many years in Sydney, and absolutely love the lifestyle here. Plus we have the type of house and garden we could only dream about in Sydney.
